Moravia CSD Re-Opening Plan

2020-2021 School Year

The Moravia Central School District recently submitted our reopening plan to NYS for the 2020-2021 school year. As we were presented with redefining education, we remained committed to our core values from our strategic plan:

There are no simple solutions. Over the last several weeks countless ideas were presented and measured in compliance with the New York State mandates i.e. transportation, social distancing, and cleaning protocols. With every suggestion we pursued all options and vetted every consideration and we discovered each scenario created a different set of challenges. There was no model that met the needs of every family's unique situation. We always kept at the forefront the best educational experience and the safest possible environment. We will continue to creatively problem solve as conditions warrant with the ultimate goal of bringing all students back every day.

Based on community surveys and best educational practices, we know that students need to be connected to their teachers and peers through the school day. Whether we are remote learning, or a hybrid model the following expectations will be in place:

• All teachers are in the building Monday through Friday

• Students will be expected to learn during the defined school day

• Attendance will be taken

• Students will be assessed, and our grading policy will be followed as outlined in the student handbook

Elementary Instruction

• Grades UPK-5 will report in-person Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday either in the AM (blue group) or the PM (silver group).

• A student’s assigned group will be announced the first week of August 2020. Considerations are being made to keep families in the same household on the same learning schedule.

• Wednesdays will be remote for all students

Blue Group

• Blue Group will attend school in-person in the morning and will work on teacher-assigned learning activities remotely in the afternoon (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday).

• Wednesdays:

• Students will be working on teacher assignments remotely.

• Teachers will be working collaboratively in teams on curriculum development and will be available for designated virtual office hours.

Silver Group

Transportation

Pick up and drop off locations selected at the start of the school year will remain in place for the foreseeable future to adhere to social distancing protocol

Student temperature will be checked before getting on the bus

Food Service

• Elementary School

• Silver Group: Breakfast will be served in the socially distanced cafeteria and students that need it will be provided with a bagged lunch delivered to the classroom

• Blue Group: Have lunch in the cafeteria while socially distancing and students that need it will be provided with a bagged breakfast for the following morning

• Middle School/High School

• A grab and go breakfast will be provided and lunch periods will be in the socially distanced cafeteria

Technology and Connectivity:

• The Moravia Central School District has digital learning devices for all its student’s UPK-12• K-3: all students are issued an I-Pad • 4-12: all students are issued a Chromebook.

• The Moravia Central School District has also increased its support levels regarding technology for the 2020-2021 academic year with the hope of being better able to assist students and families with their technology concerns.

• The district has access to Mi-Fi/Wi-Fi devices for those students who may have difficulty in securing internet access.

Custodial and Maintenance

• Entryways to schools will be cleaned after buses unload students. All other high-touch areas will be disinfected immediately once all students are in assigned classroom areas.

• Elementary School Operations

• In between sessions (AM and PM), all high-touch areas will be cleaned and disinfected. Areas include but are not limited to – desks, doorknobs, light switches, phones, etc.

• “Community” restrooms will be cleaned every hour on the hour while students are in attendance.

• Classroom restrooms will be cleaned in between the AM and PM sessions

Custodial and Maintenance

• Middle School/High School Operations

• In between classes, all high-touch areas will be cleaned and disinfected. Areas include but are not limited to – desks, doorknobs, light switches, phones, etc.

• Restrooms will be cleaned every hour on the hour while students are in attendance.

• Buses

• Drivers will disinfect between each “run” on days students are transported

• Custodial staff will provide a “deep clean” on all buses on Wednesdays

• Cafeteria

• All eating areas will be disinfected following each lunch period

• Hallways

• Will be cleaned and disinfected multiple times a day and on an “as-needed” basis depending on high traffic areas
