BOY SCOUT TROOP 609 PROJECTS

DETENTION LAKES BULKHEAD REPAIR

PROJECT

Boy Scout Troop 609 is for kids with Autism. They meet at the Westview School on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:30 to 11:30am. This month Julian Hightower has his Eagle project. He collected art supplies for Texas Children’s Cancer Center. The kids went camping at Lake Livingston and they cooked and went fishing. The Scouts also volunteered for the Westview School Family Fun Day.

MUD 341 and the Lakes on Eldridge Board of Directors are pleased to announce a major project to repair the concrete bulkheads around our lakes. This project is similar to the one done in August of 2014. Construction will commence in mid April and complete in June.

Different repair methods will be used depending on the condition of the specific bulkhead. The smaller cracks will be sealed with a flexible grout material. In other areas with larger cracks, tiebacks \(wooden posts) will be installed behind the wall with a metal rod fastened to the water side of the bulkhead to prevent further shifting. There are a few other areas where small sink holes behind the bulkheads that will be filled. There are some other locations that will be regarded to facilitate water run off following rain fall.

No fish or wildlife should be impacted by this project. All access to the proposed work areas will be from residential streets and the work will occur within the detention lake reserve areas (public areas between lot line and lake edge. No areas of residential lots will be used for access, staging, or work areas at any time. The amount of time the contractor, SafeFlow, will be working in any one area should be between 1 -3 days.

This work is being financed by Mud 341. Benchmark Engineering will be providing project management. If you have any questions, please contact Brian Chovanec at [email protected] or [email protected].

We meet the 4th Monday of each month at 7:30 P.M. (unless we decide to skip a month or change the meeting day). We take turns hosting the meeting and sometimes change the date or book, so please contact [email protected] to get the details for each meeting. Our group has lively discussion (not totally about the books) and we challenge ourselves to read out of our comfort zones.

May 21 (NOTE: 1 week earlier because of Memorial Day) – Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf. In the familiar setting of Holt, Colorado, home to all of Kent Haruf's inimitable fiction, Addie Moore pays an unexpected visit to a neighbor, Louis Waters. Her husband died years ago, as did his wife, and in such a small town they naturally have known of each other for decades. Addie and Louis have long been living alone in empty houses, the nights so terribly lonely, especially with no one to talk with. But maybe that could change? As Addie and Louis come to know each other better—their pleasures and their difficulties—a beautiful story of second chances unfolds.

June 25 – A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler. The Whitshanks are one of those families that radiate an indefinable kind of specialness, but like all families, their stories reveal only part of the picture: Abby and Red and their four grown children have

LOE BOOK CLUBaccumulated not only tender moments, laughter, and celebrations, but also jealousies, disappointments, and carefully guarded secrets. From Red’s parents, newly arrived in Baltimore in the 1920s, to the grandchildren carrying the Whitshank legacy boisterously into the twenty-first century, here are four generations of lives unfolding in and around the sprawling, lovingly worn house that has always been their anchor.

So many books, so little time!.....

RECYCLING DAY!

Do you have old electronics or tons of paper that you need to safely dispose of or destroy? Texas Security Shredding and RPC Global E-Waste Management Solutions will help residents prevent identity theft and protect the environment by offering paper shredding and electronic recycling on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lakes on Eldridge Clubhouse parking lot.

Texas Security Shredding will provide onsite shredding for your private documents. No need to remove staples, paper clips or binder clips! Documents that contain personal and confidential information will be securely destroyed on-site into confetti-sized pieces. If possible, bring papers to be shredded in paper grocery or shopping bags, which can also be shredded on site and recycled with other paper products. If papers to be shredded are brought in plastic bags or cardboard boxes, the bags or cardboard boxes will be returned to the resident.

RPC Global will accept computer electronics, such as personal computers, servers & peripherals, keyboards, mice & speakers, switches and routers, cords & cables, computer monitors, laptops,

hard drives, memory chips, projectors, hubs & routers, tape drives, printers, copiers & plotters, fax machines, UPS batteries, and power supplies. For an additional cost of $4.50, RPC offers documented hard drive media shredding and will issue a certificate when payment clears.

Consumer electronic goods will also be accepted. Acceptable items are small kitchen appliances, PDAs, game consoles and controllers, laptop & rechargeable batteries, telephones, cell phones, toner cartridges, DVD/CD/VCR players, stereo equipment, CDs, floppy drives, VHS tapes, alarm clocks, radios, electric fans, and televisions. For safety reasons, all items dropped off should be easily carried by one person. They do not accept televisions or monitors with broken glass, large appliances or hazardous materials.

Items to be recycled need to be separated into paper shredding or electronics categories. This will help facilitate faster drop off for our residents. Volunteers will be there to help direct traffic and unload vehicles. Enjoy this one stop recycling opportunity

MEMORIAL HERMANN CYPRESS HOSPITAL CELEBRATES FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF OPENING WITH PLANS FOR EXPANSION

Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital is celebrating its first year of delivering high-level services to the community with plans to expand. The recently approved expansion will develop empty space already built on the Cypress campus.

“We’ve seen amazing growth in the hospital’s first year of operation and we are dedicated to continuing to provide the community with the excellent care they have come to expect from us. I am proud that the community has embraced us as a trusted care provider,” said Heath Rushing, Senior Vice President and CEO of Memorial Hermann Cypress.

The nearly $25 million expansion will add 24 licensed beds, including Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, as well as an additional catheterization lab for heart procedures and endoscopy suite for gastrointestinal procedures. Since opening March 31, 2017, the 81-bed facility has added multiple services, including a high-risk pregnancy center, Memorial Hermann Wound Care, robotic surgery capabilities, and occupational medicine services for companies in the region. The hospital now offers services provided by 480 affiliated physicians spanning 40 specialties.

In addition to the expansion project, Memorial Hermann Cypress has also started its journey toward becoming a designated Level III trauma center and Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

“It takes time to demonstrate the consistent, high-quality care offered at the hospital needed to receive these designations. We feel confident that we will show the state that we can provide remarkable care to seriously injured and ill patients and we are confident that we will receive recognition for both our trauma center and our NICU,” said Jessica Rivas, Vice President of Operations at Memorial Hermann Cypress.

The expansion project will roll out over the course of next year and is expected to be finalized by summer 2019.

Learn more about the full range of services offered at Memorial Hermann Cypress and its connection to Memorial Hermann’s fully integrated, comprehensive care network.

Lakes on EldridgeMARKETING vs. LISTING

Don’t be fooled, a ‘For Sale’ sign in your front yard is not a marketing plan and neither is making sure your home is listed on HAR. The difference between listing a home and mar-keting a home is critical to the overall success of selling it.

As a successful real estate agent, I specialize in real estate marketing and will create a comprehensive customized plan with you to showcase your home.
