1 MONTHLY SYLLABUS SESSION-2017-18 CLASS-I SUBJECT : ENGLISH MONTH CONTENT April 2017 Unit 1 : A Happy Child (Recitation with actions) ACTIVITY: SPEAKING 1 .What makes you happy? Each child will try and talk about things that make him / her happy. Eg- I feel happy when I play with my friends. Encourage each child to speak even if the sentences are ungrammatical or broken. In case the child uses the mother tongue instead of forbidding him/her from doing so, rephrase the sentence in simple english and ask him/her to repeat the sentence. 2. Talking about feelings. Elicit answers by asking short leading questions or showing the students pictures Eg. How do you feel when your friend does not talk to you? WRITING Write different words associated with happiness Change the number Opposite words Draw something that makes you happy and write one sentence about it.

April 2017 Unit 1 : A Happy Child (Recitation with actions)

ACTIVITY:

SPEAKING

1 .What makes you happy?

Each child will try and talk about things that make him / her

happy. Eg- I feel happy when I play with my friends. Encourage

each child to speak even if the sentences are ungrammatical or

broken. In case the child uses the mother tongue instead of

July 2017 Unit 2 : After a Bath (Recitation) – The Bubble, The Straw and

the shoe-Reading

Activity: Listening – Paste Things of yellow colours.

Vowel Sounds.

Speaking – Act the character of your choice.

Unit 3 : The Little Kitten (Recitation), Lalu and Peelu

(Reading), Mother Hen & Chicks.

Activity : (1) Collect the pictures of 2 birds, paste, name them

and speak 2 lines about them. Speak a few sentences about ‘My

favourite game’, (2) Role play based on the lesson.

August 2017 Unit 4 : Once I saw a little bird (Recitation) – Mittu and the

Yellow Mango

Activity : Draw a parrot, colour it and speak two sentences

about your parrot.

Listen to the instructions and write / tell the name of fruits.

Unit 5 : Merry go round (Recitation) – Circle (Reading)

Activity : The students will work in pairs & discuss a fair they

have been to. This is followed by each child speaking 2-3 lines

about the fair in class.

Activity : (1) Rhyming words (2) listen and write in table, the

things we get from plants.

November 2017 Unit 7 : A Kite (Recitation) – Sundari (Story)

Activity: (1) Listen to the sentences from the story, arrange

them in order, (2) Draw a kite and speak about it.

Unit 8 : The Little Turtle Recitation

December 2017 Unit 8: The Little Turtle Recitation – The Tiger and The

Mosquito

Activity : Make the mask of tiger or dress like a mosquito and

describe either of them.

Unit 9 : Clouds – Anandi’s Rainbow Story Reading

Activity : Use of capital letters.
