SCHWABEN ABEND

“LIEWI LANDSLEIT!” – Join us for an evening of dancing, music, enter-tainment and camaraderie of cultural pride!

Three representative groups from the Landsmannschaft der Banater Schwaben e.V. will be landing on the shores of America in August! Tanzgruppe der Banater Schwaben aus Esslingen, Tanzgruppe der Banater Schwaben aus Singen and the Eisenbahner Musikanten will be touring the United States and their first stop is in the birthplace of the Union! These groups are direct from Germany!

Together as a force of “kumrada” the Danube Swabian Association of Philadelphia, the Trenton Donauschwaben Association and the United German Hungarians will be hosting these groups on Satur-day, August 17!

The ticket price for the evening will be $7.00. Reservations are a must and you can contact Marlene Fricker to make them. She can be reached at 215-275-4991 or [email protected].

Doors open at 5:00pm. Dinner will be available for purchase and as always the bar will be open.

Expect high quality performances from the Cultural Group as well as the Philadelphia and Trenton Dance Groups! Music and laughter will fill our hall. It would be a tragedy if strong voices are not raised in song together! Friends from nearby will mingle with our guests from across the pond.

The more the merrier! We will make our fun and we can have more of it with more of us! Join us and join our friends! This is an oppor-tunity to learn and to grow. This is an opportunity to gather around a feeling. We want to gather around the charm of our entertaining spirit!

We will see that our six groups are all unique and interesting, but within we have common bonds and similar interests. Groups of peo-ple from different places can find common ground by simply being together! We hope this happens when we host our guests!

We want you to be a part of this togetherness!

My friends, let us extend a hearty handshake to our soon to be guests and hopefully quick-to-be friends saying with a smile in greeting, “Servus Landsleit!”

GERMAN DAY Sunday June 30th—12:00pm

The Steuben Day Observance Association of Philadelphia and Vicinity will be celebrating German Day at our club. We are proud to host this exciting event and wish to extend an invitation to all our mem-bers, their families and their friends to come out and spend the day with us.

The Steuben Committee’s newly elected chairman, Tom Markow and his committees have been working very hard to unite the German community and elevate the bar to a level of excitement of which we can all be proud.

To help make German day even better we have invited all dancers, singers, soccer players, and others to be a part of the day’s entertain-ment. The Heimatklänge Orchestra will play throughout the day. Cold German beer and various hot German foods will be available for purchase. There will be German-American Sports Exhibitions for all to enjoy as well as cultural entertainment.

Proceeds benefit the German-American Steuben Day Parade which will be held on Saturday, September 28th.

As members of the German-American Community, we need you to support the German Day. This is the time to bring your family and friends for an afternoon of “ETHNIC PRIDE”.

On Thursday evening the Freundschaftsabend or Friendship Evening will be in the Kalahari Ballroom from 8:00 to 1:00am with entertainment by Alex Meixner! On Friday the Adult Einzelplatteln Competition takes place from 9:00am to 2:00pm. As a club we have a total of six couples entered into the competition! The Jugend Einzelplatteln takes place from 2:00pm-6:00pm. Six of our individual dancers are entered.!

Friday evening includes the Heimatabend mit Volkstanz from 7:30pm-midnight in the Kilimanjaro suites. The Wilkommenfeier or Welcome Dance is al-ways a good time and this event will take place in the Kalahari Ballroom from 8:00 to 1:00am with entertain-ment by Alex Meixner!

Saturday is when the main event will take place! Beginning at 9:00am the Gruppen Preisplattler Competition will last for a majority of the day. The competition will be in Suites 1 and 6 of the Kilimanjaro room and will feature theater style seating. The Gauverband Nordamerika states on their website, “Gruppenpreisplatteln and Einzelpreisplatteln are two of the highlights of the biennial Gaufest, held in every "odd" year. Each Verein (club) within the Gauverband may enter the Schuhplattler competition with one group of four to six couples. One of three dances is performed; which one and the order of performance are determined by pulling a number out of a hat the day before the competition.”

Saturday evening will be the traditional Festessen or Banquet. Lasting from 6:00pm to midnight in the Kili-manjaro room with musical entertainment from Die Lustigen Almdudler!

Sunday’s events features the Picnic from 11:00am-4:00pm in the Kilimanjaro room with musical entertain-ment from Die Lustigen Almdudler! It is at the picnic that the awards are announced and presented from the entire weekends events and competitions.

Sunday evening is the Abschiedsfeier or Farewell Party. Beginning at 8:00pm in the Kalahari Ballroom music will be provided by “The Breakfast Club” for the “Cleveland Rocks” theme!

Over the whole weekend, the events of the typical Gaufest always keep us busy. There are some down times, some work times and some party times all squeezed into the extended weekend. When events are scheduled to end they rarely ever do. The people just move to a new location. The goal is to be successful and have a good time as well!
