However , your unending deman ds for information not related to immediate board action necessitate a change in practice. The Superintenden t works for the District and the Board; he does not work for individual board members. All requests by individual board membe rs for action by the Superinten dent or other District staff (examples include: creating documents, providing answers and explana tions or making changes to district practices) will be reviewed by Dr. Hoover and myself. We will decide if the requests have value to the Board and the District as a whole and then action may be taken accordin gly. I know you will strongly disagree with this procedure as you feel as a school director you have unrestrained rights to the time and attention of the district staff. Howeve r, we as a district must direct our resources to enhance the educa tion of our students, not to answer endle ss demands from individual boa rd members. Except in cases where the Board has bestowed autho rity in a board member to act on behalf of the Board, individual board membe rs have no authority. Our autho rity, and our ability to call for action, only derives from working with our fellow board members to gain majority support . The exception to this procedure will be request s for information for an immediate upcoming board meetin g. For example, w hen the agenda is posted on Board Docs, Directors will still be free to direct questions to the Superinten dent and receive relevant informatio n that is directly related to posted items. Additionally, the Superint endent has always made himse lf available to meet with board members, so I would encoura ge you to take advantage of his knowledge and insight and set up a meeting when questions arise. Any dissemination or use of this information by a person other than the intended recipient is unautho rized and may be illegal.
