MONETARISM The dry-cleaner represents a bank employing fractional banking whereby, as with the dry-cleaner in this episode wearing Jerry's coat, the bank does not simply hold your money in a vault, but rather invests it. While dry-cleaners do not conventionally do this, imagine if they did. If everyone attempted to pick up their dry- cleaning simultaneously, a la the bank run during the Great Depression, then the result would be the total collapse of the industry--there simply would not be enough clothes at one time to give everyone what they own back at once. So much of the economic system depends on the employment of money belonging to bank depositers--money that is constantly and optimally used to add value to society. To prevent an economic implosion, monetarists theorize that the financial system needs enough (either by central bank injections or otherwise) capital (clothes) to placate everyone's fears that their money (clothes) is not secure--thus stymying the run on the bank.

MONETARISM

The dry-cleaner represents a bank employing fractional banking whereby, as with the dry-cleaner in this episode wearing Jerry's coat, the bank does not simply hold your money in a vault, but rather invests it. While dry-cleaners do not conventionally do this, imagine if they did. If everyone attempted to pick up their dry-cleaning simultaneously, a la the bank run during the Great Depression, then the result would be the total collapse of the industry--there simply would not be enough clothes at one time to give everyone what they own back at once.
