PRINCIPAL’S REPORTSnake and spider seasonAs we head towards the end of term and Summer weather there is naturally going to be an increase in reptilian and arachnid activity. Please take the time to talk to your children around the dangers that may be lurking in long grass, under logs or under leaf litter. While these areas are attractions for young children the repercussions of playing in these areas can be fatal. Here are some links to helpful websites that may be of use.

Father’s Day BreakfastThank you to our brave fathers and grandfathers who came out in torrential rain to join us for breakfast last Friday in honour of Father’s Day! A huge thank you to our parents who came along to help out and cook, chat and clean up. These events couldn’t happen without you all.

Jump in at Jilliby – Kindergarten 2020This week our 2020 Kindergarten students came along for their introduction to our school. They had a wild time on the treasure hunt and came away with treasure. Mrs Wales was fabulous as she read them Puppet Pals and then they all made puppets to take home. We are looking forward to seeing them all again on the 25th!

Touch FootballLast Friday our girls’ touch football team competed in the PSSA touch football knockout competition. Our first match was against Tuggerah Public School & after finding our feet in the initial half, our team went on to win 6-3. This win allowed us to progress onto the next round against a determined & well rested Chittaway Bay Public School. Being more than a little hot & tired, the Jilliby girls overcame all obstacles, including exhaustion & some dubious refereeing decisions, to win the match 5-4 & progress onto to final game of the day. Feeling overheated & fatigued from having already played 80 minutes of touch football, we were defeated by a fresh-legged & very skilful Berkeley Vale Public School. Overall, our team finished the competition in round four! They have shown commendable resilience, determination & commitment to improving their gameplay & should be very proud of their efforts. Well done!

A big thank you goes, once again to our parents, grandparents & guardians for rearranging schedules in order to get our players to the field.

Trevor Bof, Sports Coordinator.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Water Safety TalkOn Wednesday, students from each grade were involved in a water safety talk delivered by Surf Lifesaving Australia. With Summer just around the corner, students were given essential information to help them to remain safe around our beaches and waterways. This included how to spot a rip at the beach, how to read water safety signage, the importance of swimming between the flags and how to identify and signal to a surf lifesaver should they need assistance.

REQUEST FOR ALL SCHOOL MAINTENANCE LOCAL TRADES PROVIDERS AND SUPPLIERSThe NSW Government has committed the largest investment in planned maintenance at public schools in the history of NSW. A record $1.3 billion is being spent on an ambitious delivery program, focused on employing local businesses and contractors across the state. To assist in addressing regional school maintenance issues and at the same time provide work for local trade’s persons and suppliers across the Hunter / Central Coast regions, over $100 million is being invested to upgrade and maintain our school infrastructure. Given this record spend by School Infrastructure NSW, you are invited to an Asset Management Unit industry breakfast briefing. This will provide information to existing and new contractors on how you can get involved.

To find out more by attending our Industry breakfast register at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/industry-engagement-information-session-tickets-65766578607 or contact your Asset Management Unit on 4088 3500.

AttendanceArriving On Time:The importance of arriving at school and class on time:• Ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day• Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine• Gives students time to greet their friends before class• Reduces classroom disruption Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents.

TIP: Don’t get into arguments with your child. Kids know how to push your buttons, so instead of ongoing arguments, just say what you need to say and walk away. Tell your child you have made your decision and that it is final. Your child will soon learn that you mean what you say and that arguing will not work. Children are expert arguers!Don’t take things personally. Kids will often use ‘words as weapons’ especially when they are feeling frustrated. Name calling, muttering under their breath or saying “I don’t love you anymore!” can be very common.
