The Harvest – Wednesday 19 th September 2018 Dear Parents & Friends, At the end of this week, we conclude Term 3 for 2018. As the trees are blossoming and the rose bushes are starting to bud, we are starting to enjoy the first signs of spring. Especially this year, we all hope and pray for good spring rains to help our farmers in the area and elsewhere. Every year, this change from winter to spring is an exciting time. It is such a joy to witness the blossoms, the new growth, and the hope and potential they bring. We can thank God for His goodness to us that we see at the beginning of this new season. However, at the end of a long winter, it also a suitable time for a break from the routines of the school term. The Term 3 Holidays are important because they allow our students to take a mental and physical breather from their studies and to re-energise themselves for the final term. For our Year 12 students, it is a bittersweet few weeks as these are the last holidays of their school lives. It also marks the time for them to ramp up their preparations for end-of-year exams and the finalisation of their high school studies. For Year 12, Term 4 at school lasts for only 2 weeks. Then, before the three-week VCAA final exam period begins, there is a week of study vacation where students officially finish their studies, complete practise exams, and seek help from their teachers in the areas they feel they are falling short. As a College, we pray for our senior students that they may have resilience and perseverance as well as good organisational practices to be able to achieve their best. And, even if they are not satisfied with their results after it’s all said and done, this can be a positive growth experience. While it feels good to achieve the highest marks, we can learn a lot from our shortcomings as we know that even in our failures, God is with us and accepts us when we turn to Him and entrust Him with all areas of our lives. He makes all things new, just as we see Him doing as the trees and flowers are blooming as they do each year. We also pray that as our Year 12 students leave our School, they will continue to become the people that God created them to be and that they would be able to make a positive influence for good in our society. May you have a restful holiday, and we look forward to returning in October to finish out the final term of this year together. God bless you and your family, Wayne Barker Wednesday, 19 th September 2018
