SPORT REPORT:

Hello All,

It’s been a painful season and I can think of no better evidence that God heard ourprayers than a Bama loss! To a backup quarterback – credit to Calzada, he played his bestgame yet. If Georgia pulls through in the SEC championship, we will have a playoff with noClemson and no Bama! It’s happening, people!!!

Brian Kelly continues to play musical chairs with his quarterbacks (and we’veseen the results of this so . . . why?). His post-game interview was something along thelines of “media you should be hyping up Coan! I pulled him after the first play and he ledtwo scoring drives in the fourth. He’s so resilient!” I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a moreridiculous plan from a coach. Good for Coan for bouncing back but Brian – the key is tohave a quarterback play all four quarters? If you know Coan’s your starter, which youclearly claim to, then why yank him out and manufacture ‘resiliency?’ That is literally likeme deliberately burning my hands on a curling iron so that I can take hot pans out of theoven later. Not necessary, a waste of time, and literally harmful. I’m not even a Coan stanbut I’ll be the first to say that this is absurd – Coan is a lot of things, but he played backupfor years and transferred to an entirely new program to get his shot. Pretty sure ‘resiliency’or ‘mental toughness’ or whatever you want to call it is not his problem, so BK maybe stoptrying to write an ESPN 30 for 30 episode and coach your quarterback, not his storyline.

Texas is gonna do what Texas is gonna do. And by that, I mean they will hangtough with a top team for three quarters and then choke with like five minutes left in thegame. It honestly feels like they are gaslighting us whenever they play a good opponentbecause it’s all “Texas is back!” and then once again, here we are. Really, it’s the Texasdefense that should shoulder the blame on this one. Oklahoma gets credit for /finally/moving on from Spencer Rattler – just because someone labels you a Heisman frontrunner in the pre-season doesn’t mean you should be allowed to throw 3472 interceptionsa game. Oklahoma loses credit for rushing the field? Are you kidding? You beat the 21stbest team in the country (and yes, I know it’s the Red River but the point still stands) after

Page 10: Monday - October 11th

an absolutely abysmal first half and you rush the field? This is where security needs to stepin and hold back the student section – not because anyone’s going to get hurt but becauseit is beyond embarrassing to the program’s reputation.

Down goes Penn State and I’m living for the Hawkeyes. Let them win it all please– they are what the Irish could’ve been. Just a tough, vintage team that can actuallyexecute and deliver results. I don’t think they could realistically hang with Georgia, giventheir lack of receiving weapons, but clearly, stranger things have happened this year. ACincinnati-Iowa playoff game would be so entertaining. Let the people have what theywant!!

Geaux Irish,

Ashley

1L OF THE WEEK:Our 1L of the Week is Andrew Badger! Andrew is definitely a 1L you wanna get to know.

Grab some Mickey Ds and binge watch Squid Games w/ him soon!

Q. Where are you from/where did you attend undergrad? San Antonio, Texas / The University of Texas (please don’t talk to me about footballafter this past Saturday)

Q. If you had to eat at one fast food chain for the rest of your life what would itbe? McDonald’s and I would get the Filet-o-Fish every day.

Q. Since you’ve watched Squid Games… would you have voted yes or no to

Page 11: Monday - October 11th

keep playing? I wish... I would probably chicken out in the moment. They don’t mess around.

Q. What are your plans for fall break? Back to Texas to spend time with my family.

Q. Would you rather know a little about many things or be an expert in onetopic? If I get to pick the topic, I would rather be an expert on one.

Q. Fight 100 duck-sized horses or 1 horse-sized duck? 100 duck-sized horses. I would probably only be able to take about 10, but I coulddonate the remaining 90 to Notre Dame and the school could open a mini race track inmemoriam.

*** Andrew I appreciate the thoughtfulness to ND, but where would we find thejockeys???

Q. Does pineapple belong on pizza? Definitely!

Q. What's the sweetest thing anyone has done for you? My mom allowing her grown son to live and work at home during the pandemic.

Q. Do you have anything to say to your fans? I am organizing a Squid Game. If you want to participate, please reach out discreetly.

Q. Who do you nominate to be next weeks 1L of the week? Shaniya Raheja

*** = Editor's Commentary

2Ls TAKING Ls:

This week's "2l taking Ls" story comes from the soccer queen herself, Rachel Collins.Rachel might have won the best L story yet. It might even top paying $400 in airbnb fees, but that's a story for another time. Grab this sweet girl a coffee sometime this week. Just

make sure you keep it away from her laptop!

Now for our feature presentation: In the fall of 1L year, I went into an open study room in my apartment. I walked out to getsome coffee and the door shut, locking my laptop, phone, wallet and keys inside. I had a

University Conduct hearing later that morning, so I was panicking. About an hour later, themaintenance man was gracious enough to come and unlock the door so I could make the

hearing.

At the very end of the hearing, I proceeded to spill a full 32oz mug of coffee on my laptop. The South Bend Apple Store was closed for covid, so I drove to Chicago for them to tellme I'd completely ruined my laptop. I always saved everything to my desktop and neverbacked anything up. Among the files lost was my legal writing brief that was due in less

than a week.

Moral of the story: use google docs.

In sticking with this week's theme of Alabama Ls, I nominate Matteo Taraborelli.

Page 12: Monday - October 11th

ASK A 3L:

This week's 3L feature is Jacqueline Lau!!! I appreciate Jacqueline for sharing herpuppers with NDLS and giving great advice for how we should spend fall break. First time

experience for both the 1 & 2ls.

Jacqueline received the following two questions:

Page 13: Monday - October 11th

Question(s) & Answers:

Q. "What is the best way to spend fall break? If you could go back, would youchange the way you spent your 1L fall break?”

3L Advice: I'll actually be spending my 3L fall break the same way I spent my 1L fall break -going to Chicago for one weekend and then back home to Michigan. I’ll probably spendless time on schoolwork this year though! Whether you go home, stay here, or go on avacation, you really can’t go wrong. The only wrong way to do fall break is if you don’t takesome time to relax. If you’re stuck on what to do… make a new friend, try the TikTok-famous salmon rice bowl, or start watching the new season of Survivor and I will gladlydiscuss it with you!

Q. “Is there a backstory as to why SBA felt the need to remind students not to jumpin the elevator at fall ball?”

3L Advice: HAH I was just as confused as most of you were when I read that. One of myDouble Domer sources tells me that the Dahnke ballroom was only finished in 2017 but itdidn’t take long for the undergrads to wreak havoc with the elevators. At the dorm dances, the students would jump in the elevators and then get stuck for a few hours because whattechnician wants to come in at 11:30 on a Saturday night?! Proud of us ~mature~ gradstudents for resisting the temptation!
