Cases include: One Furnas County resident A female in her 60’s who is self-isolating at home, related to direct contact with case 5 from Furnas County. One Keith County resident A female in her 50’s who isolated dur- ing her illness period and has since recovered, related to community spread. The Keith County case was ill at the end of March through early April and has been released from isolation by the state of Nebraska. Anyone who may have been in contact with this person has already passed the incubation period and no further cases of illness have been reported. These cases bring the total to eleven positive COVID-19 cases in SWNPHD: four in Furnas County, four in Red Willow County, one in Frontier County, one in Hitchcock County and a recovered case in Keith County. UNION PACIFIC CORP. FURLOUGHING STAFF A company representative says Union Pacific Corp. is furloughing most of the staff at its facility in North Little Rock that repairs the railroad’s locomotives after seeing a substantial drop in business volume because of the coronavirus pandemic. Kristen South is the Nebraska-based railroad’s senior director for corporate communi- cations and media relations. She declined to specify how many people were laid off but said employees on Thursday started re- ceiving notifications regarding the Jenks Locomotive Facility’s tem- porary closure. South added that the company will reevaluate fis- cal conditions during the week of May 18 to determine if the facil- ity can resume operations June 1. FREE FISHING & PARK ENTRY DAY RESCHEDULED In a proactive effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Ne- braska Game and Parks Commission is delaying Free Fishing and Park Entry Day. It had been scheduled for May 16. Free Fishing and Park Entry Day, typically held annually in Nebraska on the Saturday preceding Memorial Day weekend, allows anyone to en- joy fishing anywhere across the state without a fishing permit or explore outdoor opportunities at any Nebraska state park, state recreation area or state historical park without the need to pur- chase a park entry permit. Normally, activities are scheduled in state park areas in conjunction with Free Fishing and Park Entry Day, but Game and Parks announced on March 16 the cancellation of all agency-sponsored activities through May 31 to prevent large gatherings of people. Free Fishing and Park Entry Day will be dis- cussed at the May 8 meeting of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in Lincoln. A rescheduled date for Free Fishing and Park Entry Day will be announced at a later time. Parks are open for day use, fishing and recreation. Individuals should limit travel as much as possible, practice social distancing at least 6 feet between others, avoid crowded areas and adhere to the 10-person limit rule. SPORTS Coach Amy Williams announced the addition of Ashley Scoggin to

the Nebraska women’s basketball team’s roster for the 2020-21

campaign on Saturday, May 2. Scoggin comes to Nebraska with

the potential of three years of eligibility, after an outstanding

redshirt freshman season at Salt Lake City Community College

in 2019-20. Scoggin averaged 10.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.1

assists and 1.3 steals per game for the 20-7 Bruins, who earned

the NJCAA Region 18 title and shared the Scenic West Athletic

Conference championship. Scoggin, who hit nearly 40 percent of

her three-point attempts and almost 95 percent of her free

throws on the season, earned first-team All-Region 18 honors

and was a member of the Region 18 All-Tournament team.

Nebraska is adding more firepower to its middle blocker posi-

tion: Kayla Caffey, a graduate transfer from Missouri, commit-

ted to the Huskers on Friday. The 6-foot Caffey will have two

seasons of eligibility with Nebraska. At Missouri, she redshirted

as a freshman in 2016 and was awarded a medical redshirt in

2018 after a leg injury. Caffey made the SEC all-freshman team

in 2017, when she was fifth in the conference with 130 blocks.

She had another strong season last fall, when she finished sec-

ond in the SEC with a .417 hitting percentage. The Huskers de-

feated Missouri in the second round of the NCAA tournament in

December, but Caffey didn’t play in that match. The Tigers fin-

ished the season 22-8. Caffey is from Chicago, where she was

the 71st-ranked player in the 2016 class, according to

PrepVolleyball.com.
