CHRISTIAN PHILOSOPHER PETER KREEFT TO

SPEAK AT CBU

Distinguished Catholic Lectors Series

Memphis- Dr. Peter Kreeft, Professor of Philosophy at Boston College, will present "Happiness: How Do You Get It? Christ’s Version vs. the World’s" as part of the Distinguished Catholic Lectors Series on Friday, April 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the University Theater at Christian Brothers University (CBU).

Kreeft is a philosopher and Christian apologist, renowned for his abilities to offer intellectually rigorous defenses of

classical Christian teachings. He punctuates his insights with wit and humor, even as he probes the moral and intellectual challenges of living as a Christian in the modern world. His lecture will explore how Christ’s teachings are at odds with virtually everything we assume makes up a "happy" life. He argues that in Christian teachings we can discover the path to a life of something far more substantial – and ultimately far more fulfilling – than what we usually think of as "happiness."

"Kreeft’s ability to engage the heart and mind with wisdom and wit, on things that really matter, appeals both to the committed and the curious," noted CBU Chair and Assistant Professor of Religion & Philosophy, Dr. Scott Geis. "CBU is privileged to welcome Professor Kreeft to campus as part of its Distinguished Catholic Lecture Series. In what promises to be a rich, thought-provoking event, Kreeft will speak on a topic of interest to everyone: happiness."

Kreeft has authored over 60 books that range from imagined dialogues involving Socrates, Sartre, Aldous Huxley, and C. S. Lewis on various philosophical and theological topics, to a systematic summary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. He has taught a variety of courses, in subjects ranging from logic and epistemology to C. S. Lewis and Thomas Aquinas. Among Dr. Kreeft’s most intriguing titles are If Einstein Had Been

a Surfer and I Surf Therefore I Am. He earned his A.B. from Calvin College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Fordham University. Although he taught briefly at Villanova University, he has spent over 45 years teaching at Boston College, where he is currently Professor of Philosophy.

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information about this lecture at CBU, contact Dr. James Wallace at (901) 321-3018 or [email protected]. For more information about Peter Kreeft visit his website at http://www.peterkreeft.com.
