The Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education, Arch Sonny Echono who disclosed this on Monday in Abuja said the president approved two additional University of Technology in Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states. P resident Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of five new universities specialised in technology and health to close the huge gap in the doctor-patient ratio as well as in medical research and production of pharmaceutical products. This brings the total number of federal universities to 50 and overall total to 201. Also, the establishment of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Abuja and two specialized universities in Health, Nutrition and Medical Sciences to be located at Azare, Bauchi State and Ila Orangun, Osun State. Echono also disclosed that the president approved that four existing Universities of Technology located in Yola, Akure, Owerri and Minna be upgraded and equipped. FG Approves Five More Federal Varsities---to upgrade technology varsities

A take-off grant of N4 billion each for the Universities of Technology and N5 billion each for the Universities of Health Science f rom the funding resources of TETFund has also been approved to ensure early take-off of the institutions.

The Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education, A r c h S o n n y E c h o n o w h o disclosed this on Monday in A b u j a s a i d t h e p r e s i d e n t a p p r o v e d t w o a d d i t i o n a l University of Technology in Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of five new

universi t ies specialised in technology and health to close the huge gap in the doctor-patient ratio as well as in medical research and production of pharmaceutical products. This brings the total number of federal universities to 50 and overall total to 201.

Also, the establishment of National Institute of Technology ( N I T ) i n A b u j a a n d t w o specialized universities in Health,

Nutrition and Medical Sciences to be located at Azare, Bauchi State and Ila Orangun, Osun State.

Echono also disclosed that the president approved that four e x i s t i n g U n i v e r s i t i e s o f

H e s a i d , “ T h e t w o n e w Universities of Technology will be established in 2021 while the upgrade of the existing four Universities of Technology and t h e N a t i o n a l I n s t i t u t e o f Technology will come on stream next year.”

The Permanent Secretary said the specialized universities would lay a solid foundation for building national preparedness and resilience in anticipation of future challenges in the health sector while reducing medical tourism to countries like India, UAE, Egypt, Europe and the USA.

While noting that the presidents had promised to establish an apex National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Abuja with six Satellite Universities of Technology, one in each geo-political zone of the country, he said the objective is to stimulate r a p i d t e c h n o l o g i c a l transformation of the country.

“The Institute shall be patterned after similar institutions in Singapore and Malaysia to serve essentially as a postgraduate centre devoted to research and innovation, drawing the best

g r a d u a t e s f r o m t h e s i x Universities of Technology, as wel l as other except ional g radua tes f rom reputab le universities within and outside Nigeria,” he said.

He however noted that the Federal Ministry of Education will collaborate with the Federal Ministries of Health, Science a n d T e c h n o l o g y , Communications and Digital E c o n o m y , t h e F C T Administration as well as other r e l e v a n t a g e n c i e s a n d Institutions to facilitate speedy actualization of these Projects.

FG Inaugurates Committee on NRDF BillThe Federal Government has inaugura t ed the Na t iona l Research and Development Foundation (NRDF) executive bill committee, with a charge to propose legislation that will ensure a robust knowledge economy.

I n a u g u r a t i n g t h e 11 - m a n committee in Abuja, Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said the committee would undertake one of the most important and meaningful assignments on behalf of the ministry and the country as a whole.

decided to demonstrate that we h o u s e t h e h i s t o r i c a l l y -acknowledged l eade r s o f research, being the universities, who with our polytechnics and colleges of education, hold the task of redefining the path of Nigeria's knowledge economy, without which we cannot be competitive at the global stage.

“ I t i s expec ted tha t your committee will fashion out the legal framework that will define the place of Research and Development (R&D) as the main parameter for measuring the strength and sustainability of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which size adds up to nothing without injection of knowledge t h r o u g h p r o b l e m - s o l v i n g research.”

The minister said the committee, which is chaired by Prof. Auwal Yadudu, has four weeks to

Don't Employ Graduates without NYSC Certificate -DG

Director-General National Yo u t h S e r v i c e C o r p , Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has asked employers no t to employ ex-corps members who do not present an authentic NYSC certificate or exemption certificate.

T h e M e m o r a n d u m o f Understanding (MoU) which was signed June 18 on the main campus of the University of A b u j a s t a t e s t h a t t h e c o l l a b o r a t i o n w o u l d b e implemented through the University Business School, Internship and Linkages Services (ILS), Centre for S I W E S a n d S t u d e n t Employment Scheme (CSSE), Centre for Undergraduate Research (CUR) and Centre for Sponsored Projects (CSP) and the ACCl's Business Entrepreneurship, Skills and Technology Centre, Dispute Resolution Centre, Abuja Trade Centre and Policy Advocacy Centre.

The University of Abuja has entered into a partnership with t h e A b u j a C h a m b e r o f Commerce and Indus t ry (ACCI) to enhance knowledge sharing, promote innovation and capacity building.

The areas of collaboration i n c l u d e r e s e a r c h a n d development, technology transfer, commercialisation of research outputs, training programmes, internship and i n d u s t r i a l a t t a c h m e n t placements, creating linkages with relevant industries, mentorship programmes, research funding and policy advocacy.

industries were known to have driven the economy of the most advanced nations of the world, added that it was high time educational institutions and business in Nigeria began to work together to drive national development.

The illegal AL-NAHDA Satellite, campus is located adjacent to the Zamfara State House of Assembly and has a Polaris Bank Account No. 4091289549, through which payment for its fees in Nigeria are made.

Further investigations by the NUC into the Operation of AL-NAHDA International University revealed that in Niger Republic, the University has campuses in Niamey and Maradi.

The NUC is, by this notice, alerting the general public to the Illegal operations of this institution and wishes to state categorically that all certificates obtained from it will not be recognized or be accepted in Nigeria for the purposes of NYSC, employment and or further studies.

The attention of the National Universities Commission, NUC, has been drawn to the illegal operation of a so-called Satellite Campus of AL-NAHDA University, Niamey, in Gusau, Zamfara State purportedly awarding undergraduate Degrees to unsuspecting Nigerians.

Their activities violate the Education National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions Act Cap E3 2004, an act which mandates NUC to close down all unapproved degree-awarding institutions.

For the avoidance of doubt, AL-NAHDA International University, Niamey, Gusau Satellite Campus is not known to the National Universities Commission which is the sole regulatory agency for all categories of degree awarding institutions in Nigeria and any Cross Border Education model operating in Nigeria.

Consequently, the Proprietors and Promoters of this illegal degree mill are by this notice directed to close down their illegal activities within 30 days. They are also to give the National Universities Commission notice of compliance within the stated period or be ready to face the consequences of their illegal operations.

• Develop and display at schools, simple context-specific reference protocols on

day to day actions to be operated in each school.

• Safe distancing procedures

• Conduct risk assessment with a view to understanding the gaps in the system

that can increase the risk of transmission and make recommendations for

addressing the gaps

which promotes behaviors that reduce spread, such as school commutes (to and
