MY INFLATABLE KITE

Page 3: Module1ideationfinal587528

scale = 1:10

I measured my object using a simple method. I measured the lines on the kite using a ruler. this is because all of the lines were straight and the object too large to scan and meas-ure. This ensured I could record accurate measurements

MEASURING MY OBJECT

Page 4: Module1ideationfinal587528

The kite inflates by catching wind as it moves in the upper chambers.

This is what makes it fly.

The kite also is directed by the fins below.

This keeps it in a straight line.

the string and handle attatched is what enables it to be used and controlled by a person while it soars through the air.

string attaches to kite fins

handle

long string can be unwound for kite to fly higher in the air

HOW MY OBJECT INFLATES

loop connects kite string to long string

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INFLATED AND DEFLATED KITE

scale = 1:5

The kite remains flat until it comes into contact with wind of is physically moved using strings.

The front opening is larger than the end which is closed. The volume created within each segment is therefore a square pyramid, but tilted

the top which comes forward enables the kite to catch more air coming from below and lifts it higher. this is what it first to rise when inflating

the flaps can lie to the left or right but the kits al-ready had natural preferences when laid out flat which are hard to oppose thus i have depicted the kite as it sits naturally

RECONFIGURING AN INFLATABLE OBJECT

DEFLATED

RESTING

INFLATEDI designed an object to explore the concept of volume, taking similar ideas from the kite. The mass expands when filled with air from an entry point when moving. When rest-ing the air escapes. There is also attached to the end of this object a string. This like the one on the kite con-trasts to the structured volume by having no structure holding it in place and therefor is unable to expand and create volume but instead is a line made of matter of its own independant volume. What I have changed in this design is the shape that the object creates. I have enabled this object to not only enlarge in a vertical direction but horizontallt too due to its cylin-drical shape which is wide than the entry point for the air. The kites entry point for the air on the other hand is taller than the rest of the kite that the air fills.I have also left out wings so that when moving, this object may go in anydirection.

FLEXIBILITY KITE SOCKETS

the personal space of someone who is on the move.needs more space for flecibility and changing of directionlike the space you keep between the front of your car and the back of another the air you move through and the pace at which you

THE FABRIC

http://dirtysaintapparel.tumblr.com/

The personal space being like an aura around your bodyIt can be an enclosure as well like charlie rob-ert’s conethe possibility to invite someone to come sit insideThis aura-type facric of inflated plastic can also be a place to store beloningsthe more you have on you determining the space you needthis fabric is thin and see through, like the fine line drawn when you sense of personal space is invaded and cannot be seen This can act like a cushion to keep you from discomfort the same way your sense of per-sonal space does.

THE LIGHT

the aura is a conceptual field around a person which can describe their energy or personality

light can be used to display this by illu-minating a field around the body which is non physical and can go beyond the structure created

to do this, light bulbs can entwine a fabric such as plactic and create the shape of the structure and illuminate the inside from the outside. This can then be flexile and allow the density of light to change.

on the other hand it could illuminate from within to create and create ball of physi-cal light which has more light illuminating outwards.

THE STRUCTUREPersonal space can have a radiusis so a torus can represent this well by creating a simple round barrier enabling sight from above and movement belowthis shape cannot change though and determ-ing a size of such a barrier to represent personal space would be impossible

having rings around this shape can enable one to change the size of balloonig segments.one could hide one side of their face with a large balloon and hold small balloons in hand.

to have more control of this kind of barrier of personal space, the balloons could become detatch and reattach using velcro for exam-ple.

rie hosokai ‘s dress on the right shows this mov-ability of the physical space around the wearer. thee girl is able to move the floating parts around her while them not intruding on her senses but creating a personal barrier for those external to her
