1. Read Telling Time with Big Mama Catby Dan Harper aloud.2. Have students brainstorm a list of places where they might see a
clock.
3. Watch StudyJams Step-by-Step Tell Time video (the home section ofthe video only) on the SMARTboard as a class, stopping to further
explain concepts introduced in the video.

1. Discuss with students why they need to know how to tell time. Forexample, to get to work on time, how long to bake a cake, etc.
2. Students will use theJungle Timeapp on their iPhone or iPad as anintroduction to telling time. Students without the technology will
take turns using the app on the SMARTboard.
3. Have students partner into groups of two. Each pair should write afew questions starting with "When" or "What time." After everyone
has written their four questions, one pair will ask another pair to
answer each question using the big clock. Then, the pair that isasking the questions should ask, "What time is it thirty minutes after
you have eaten your breakfast?" or "What time is it an hour after you
have brushed your teeth?"4. Prepare a large sheet of paper that has a large clock drawn on it
(without the hands). Then, have students ask the questions starting
with "When" or "What time." Have two students standing on the
paper. One student will be the small hand, and the other will be thelarge hand. As one student asks a question, another student will
answer, and the two students on the clock will illustrate that answer.

1. Students will play Telling Time BINGO. They will be given acard with analog and digital clocks set to hour and half hour times
and bingo markers. The teacher will call out random hour and halfhour times. The first student to get BINGO and have the correct
times marked on their card is the winner.
2. Introduce students to the app:MathTappers: ClockMasteron theiriPhones or iPads. Students will need to partner up for peer assistanceif needed. If students dont have the technology, the teacher will
allow those students to come to the SMARTboard and take turns
