Boxwork is a type of mineral structure.

created by the removal of bedrock, rather than as a secondary deposit.

Boxwork consists of blades of calcite that protrude from cave surfaces. The calcite blades once filled the cracks of bedrock on the walls of the cave

the bedrock has eroded and disintegrated, leaving behind only the calcite frame.

This analytical drawing represents bal-ance with an equal number of points drawn on each side and each con-nected by 6 lines.

This form represents movement. It was achieved by dividing a square-with three lines extended from one corner.

This form represents symmetry. It was achieved by marking each side of a square in thirds, and joining select-ed points with a line.

Similar to this garment, my intention is to explore the effects of repitition, scaline and tesselation. The shadows of the objects are intriguing. In the model to the left, I like how the scale has been used to create movement and growth.

General Maister Me-morial Park in Slove-nia. The rigid shapes which are repeated at various angles cre-ate depth. The juxta-position between el-ements such as grass and stone create a contrast similar to that created from shad-ows and light.

These designs all present contrasts be-tween light and dark, creating a sense of balance without being necessarily being physically symmetrical

Rotation on the same scale was used here to create a sense of movement

1. create six prisms similar in size and form2. align most prominent apex of prisms in a straight line3. (Referring to diagrams) rotate 1 prism 45 degrees so it’s edge aligns with edge of prism next in the series4. Shift prism down one quarter of the way5. Repeats steps 3 and four for all prisms (Figure 4)6. Flip prism that was just shifted up against the face of the other prism (Figure 5)7. repeat step 6 for all prisms

The spiralling and rotation patterns, as well as the scaling creates a sense of growth and decay.

I want to explore growth and de-cline as boxwork forms as a result of these things. Initially calcite min-erals grow (growth )between the cracks of bedrock on cave walls. Over time, the bedrock erodes (decay), leaving just the calcite frame,

Exploration of movement and growth

Movement and growth continued and interface with arm/hand. I thought of how my mod-el that was rotated around an axis in this design

The idea here was to examine if two arms could be crossed over in front of the body to lock and become one form. rotation around the arm has been explored. It imitates how bedrock and calcite form together

Developmental sketch 3 The idea here was to explore a scale within a scale. The calcite crystal formation are all tiny forms which together create the larger form of boxwork

I guess I don’t know exactly what i like about this photo and this lighting effect. I think i like the multi-tude of effects thats changing one thing about the window might do, if you changed the angle, or if you closed the window completely. Or if you closed the blind completely. I like how in the shadows, you can see periods of intensity, where two light sourc-es have interacted and become super intense in certain areas. I especially like in the lowest shadow how two patterns of a similar form, but on a slightly different angle have interactedand as a result have created this rhythmic feeling.
