Registration • Students register at the Desk of Registration and Student

Services. • Registration in a particular class is subject to availability.• Continuing students who have successfully completed a

course are entitled to priority registration for the next course scheduled to meet on the same days and at the same time. In all other cases, they are subject to the same regulations as new students.

Student agesStudents who wish to enroll in the courses must have completed their 16th year of age.

PlacementIn order to serve students more efficiently, placement tests are offered on-site and online. Test scores are valid for one calendar year. Students who do not enrol in the Modern Greek Language Program within a year after taking the placement test are required to retake the test.

On-site test• The placement tests are administered at the Hellenic American

Union premises on weekdays during working hours by appointment throughout the calendar year.

• Placement tests are scored within one working day after the administration of the test and test scores are made available to the prospective students.

• The placement test consists of multiple-choice items and its duration ranges from 60 to 90 minutes.

Online test• Tests are available at no charge through the Hellenic American

Union website (Home > Learning Resources > Online Tests).• In order to take the placement test, an email address is

required. The test is scored automatically and test scores are made available to the prospective students via their e-mail.

• The placement test consists of multiple-choice items and its duration ranges from 60 to 90 minutes.

•General information• New students with basic knowledge of Greek or former

students of the Hellenic American Union who have interrupted their studies for more than a calendar year must take a placement test prior to enrolment. These students must contact the Hellenic American Union to inquire about placement tests.

• New students with no knowledge of Greek are not required to take a placement test and are placed in the “A1 Beginners” course.

• Level or course changes as a result of misplacement are rare. However, in case a student has reason to believe that he/she has been misplaced and can support his/her claim, he/she should speak to the class instructor by the third class session. The instructor will consult with the Program’s Academic Staff in order to assess the student’s level of proficiency. After this assessment of the student’s language ability, the instructor may either reject or confirm the student’s claim and recommend that he/she be placed at a higher or lower level. The instructor’s decision cannot be appealed.
