Betsy Chutchian developed a passionate interest in fabric, quilts, sewing and history as a child. After graduation from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1980, Betsy received an antique quilt top made by her paternal great grand-mother and great aunt and taught herself to quilt.
Betsy began teaching quiltmaking in 1990 and continues to enjoy teaching and sharing her passion for reproducing 19th Century quilts. She is the author of several books with The Kansas City Star, Gone to Texas, Quilts from a Pioneer Woman’s Journal , Lizzie’s Legacy, Just Treats, No Tricks and is co-author of History Repeated, Block Exchange Quilts by the 19th Century Patchwork Divas. Betsy is co founder of the 19th Century Patchwork Divas, a block ex-change group dedicated to 1800’s reproduction fabric.
Betsy lives in Grand Prairie, Texas with husband, Steve.

Lisa’s talents are many; proud mother of 3 sons (Lance, Luke and Jake), designer, teacher, award winning quilter, shop owner, and business woman partnered with her husband, Nick. In addition to the retail shop, Lisa and Nick stay busy with their wholesale and internet business as well as traveling to and vending at numerous quilt shows across the country. Edyta’s love for fabric began at a very early age when she cut her mothers’ drapes to create her first fabric project. Her moth-er recognized Edyta’s passion for fabric and she taught her the skills required for sewing. Creating beautiful gowns initiated Edyta’s journey into creative textile design and was a building block into the quilting adventure that lie ahead of her. Edyta considers her marriage to her husband Michael one of her biggest blessings. She not only fell in love, but she built a close relationship with her mother-in-law Carol and grandmother-in-law Anna; two women who introduced Edyta to their family tradition of quilting. Edyta has always possessed a desire to ex-press herself about the objects or occasions in her surroundings and now quilting design is the avenue she chooses to release this passion. The combination of inspiration, a love for fabric, a keen eye for color, and her family teachings blended into the recipe for developing a thriving talent for designing quilts and quilting patterns.

Collecting antique textiles in France has long been a passion of Kaari Meng, owner of French General. French General is a workshop locat-ed in Los Angeles, California that stocks a collection of vintage craft kits, as well as fabric and old millinery supplies. The fabric collections represent colors that could have been found in 18th century rural homes in France. Different textures and prints are meant to blend to-gether for projects that are both beautiful and functional. Filled with soft faded reds, ticking stripes and provencal checks, the fabrics are made to be used for heirloom quilts as well as home interiors.
French General is a workshop located in Los Angeles, California and is open to the public for shopping and creative classes. Teachers from around the world come to French General to teach their craft and inspire students on a weekly basis. French General has written over five books, including jewelry mak-ing, home decor, entertaining and crafts – each layered with the warmth, color and texture that French General has become known for. As well as writing books, Kaari teaches a variety of creative and inspiring workshops across the country on a regular basis.
French General also takes women to the South of France every summer to help them find their inner French woman. The creative retreats include flea markets and farmer markets, exploring local vil-lages, and meeting artisans that still make things the way they were made 100 years ago. Each week is filled with workshops that use materials found in the flea markets as well as teach techniques in sewing, stitching, natural dying, paper crafts and mixed media. INSPIREDTwenty-five years ago I found myself wandering around Paris and stumbled upon the old Marais neighborhood. I fell in love instantly with the history, the gardens, the cafes, and the winding cobbled streets. Our new collection of fabric, Le Marais, was inspired by the centuries old historical district of Paris, complete with botanicals, petite prints and even a beautiful early toile I found in France.

Lynne Hagmeier, designer and owner of Kansas Troubles Quilters, has been creating and sharing her quilt designs since 1995. She learned to quilt in 1987 while working at a local quilt shop-partly as a way to maintain her sanity as she and her husband, Robert, raised their six children. The last two children graduated high school May of 2000 and that has allowed her love of quilting to blossom into a full time business. Lynne has a very distinctive style of traditional quilting with adding her own personal flair by embellishing her quilts with wool applique’s and wool embroidery. Lynne’s husband gets involved in the business. He is a history teacher and researches information for her quilts and the stories that inspire them. Lynne and Robert make quite a team. Good things just keep on coming with this gal. New fabric groups, new quilt kits, new quilter’s journals… more.

INSPIREDIf you’re planning a drive across Kansas, I recommend traveling in late summer. During the month of June, the wheat is waving gently in the early summer breeze creating a majestic golden wave along nearly every highway. This view is reminiscent of lyrics from patriotic songs (O Beauti-ful, for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain....) and is but an introduction to the stunning beauty and grace of the fields of sunflowers in August and September. It’s not uncommon for cars to stop alongside the Kansas byways to take pictures of the rows of vibrant 6-foot blooms. I’m a homegrown Kansas girl that proudly welcomes ones arrival to our country home with an old windmill painted to re-semble a giant sunflower at the end of our lane. We plant sunflowers along the hedgerows to cut for bouquets and dry the heads to create wreaths. Sunflowers come in all shapes and sizes and many different colors. I love them all. I especially love mixing them with other native plants and grasses for a unique, long-lasting arrangement. I hope you enjoy my medley of sunflower prints with nature-inspired motifs for a delightful fabric collection echoing from the Kansas prairie.

As a representative for Moda Fabrics, Eileen Taylor immersed herself in the quilting industry and dreamed of designing fabric. Soon she and graphic designer and artist Lynn Hawley Bloomquist pooled their talents to design the Holly Taylor fabric collection, creating more than 30 lines of North-woods-theme fabrics for Moda.
This niche suits the Minnesota women well: Both take inspiration from their home state’s natural beauty. The lacy pattern of leaves chewed by in-sects, the colors of the sunset over a lake, and the movement of water bugs dancing in reflections on water find their way into Holly Taylor designs.

Sandy Klop had her first exposure to the world of colorful patterns while watching Klompen danc-ers perform. Every year in May her hometown of Holland, Michigan, celebrated tulip time with a vast array of Dutch costumes. She was first ex-posed to quilting in 1979 at her sister-in-laws when she returned from teaching in Iran. She went on to teach art in Saudi Arabia for the next four years. She loved the rich colors and patterns in the tiles and carpets of the Middle East. Back in California, Sandy began to make pattern samples for a lo-cal quilt store. From there she moved to machine quilting. She has worked at a local quilt shop and taught many quilt classes. In 2000 she published a series of quilt books with Jan Patek under the series title Folk Art Favorites before venturing out on her own as American Jane Patterns. In 2003 at Quilt Market Moda approached her to see if she would like to capture her look in fabric. She has been designing for Moda ever since. “Now I have a new fabric range from Moda every six months and I design quilt patterns to feature my new fabrics. I’m truly living my dream.” Her cre-ative designs have appeared in several catalogs and many magazines. She speaks regularly on the topic, “The American Jane Story in Fabric”.

Sandy has always had an interest in art and sewing. Her mother taught her how to sew at a young age. In high school she made her own clothes and made greeting cards for her friends. Later on she made cards for her boyfriend, who later became her husband. On the advice of her high school counselor she did not pursue a career in art. She was told that an A in high school art does not make you an artist. In 1988 Sandy set out to prove that counselor wrong (or right) and started a greeting card company, ” My Dream Designs.” In 1992 she combined her love of art and sewing skills and the pattern company “Pieces From My Heart” was born. In spring of 1994, she attended her first international Quilt Market in St. Louis, where she was discov-ered by Moda fabrics. Many fabric lines later, she is thrilled to be designing fabric for Moda. Designing fabric allows Sandy to work with different color pallets, which is her favorite part of designing. Sandy resides in Algona, Iowa with her husband Bruce and two children, Anthony and Abby. “My love of working (playing really) with fabric & threads began when I was a little girl, & I learned how to embroider. I had seen table covers & doilies that my Mom had from her Mom & Grandma, & I felt such a sense of belonging as I was also learning to do the variety of pretty stitches. I could sit & stitch for hours!
. . . Then there were the beautiful patchwork quilts that my Grandmas had made that Mom kept on the higher shelves in the linen closet. The quilts were saved for ‘special’ occasions. . . when snuggling & comfort was especially needed.
After 22 years working in the architecture, design and teaching fields, Brenda decided to follow her own design dreams and started Acorn Quilt & Gift Company. She first focused on quilts, & over the years has added designs reflecting her love of embroidery & count-ed cross stitch under ‘Brenda Riddle Designs’.
Brenda majored in environmental & graphic design and has worked in the interior design field. She now lives in Oro Valley, Arizona, where she loves to spend much of her free time designing quilts and needlework, & designing fabrics for Moda(!).
“I love to bring to my designs my “little acorn” philosophy – “from little acorns. . . mighty oaks grow”, meaning that every project is essentially accomplished in the same manner – no matter how simple or complicated – it is simply taking those little steps, that adds up to our true ‘works of heart’.“

It was inevitable that I should become a quilter. Addictions of this mag-nitude tend to be familial, and boy have I been predisposed. I’ve got my mother to blame–she shared her sewing and design knowledge with me since I was a little girl. Thanks to her, I became a full-blown quilt addict by the time I was sixteen years old. Of all my mother’s talents, however, I was most impressed by her ability to incorporate a sense of magic into all aspects of life.
Now that I am grown, I find myself revisiting my childhood quite often as a source of inspiration. Back in 2010, I quit my job to stay at home with a new baby. After a few months of adjusting to my new role as mother, I became reacquainted with my sewing machine and decided to start a blog and pattern company called Lella Boutique. When I tried to come up with a business name, I kept thinking about a sweet pink toddler dress that my mom made for me to twirl around in. I called it my “Lella” dress–“Lella” being my way of saying “Cinderella” at that age. I could think of no sweeter emblem than that beloved dress to remind me to incorporate all of those wonderful childhood elements into my creative process.

I always cherish my visits to Grandma's house--located high up in the Colorado mountains. Her yard is a flower garden overflowing with hol-lyhocks, delphinium, and raspberries--a sweet combination of blues and pinks surrounded by expanses of various shades of green. Grandma tells me wonderful stories of her childhood: Life was simpler back then, and her family didn't have much, so they valued what they found and what they could grow. When they were lucky enough to find gooseberries, they picked them and took them home. A little sprinkle of salt helped reduce the sour taste, and Grandma and her sisters thought gooseber-ries were a rare kind of treat. If they could gather enough, their mother made a pie!

Corey married her husband Ryan in 1997 and shortly thereafter, a love affair of fabric began. Corey's fam-ily includes generations of quilt makers, so quilt mak-ing was a natural choice as an outlet for her fabric obsession.
When Corey’s oldest daughter, Chloe, was born in 2005, her attention moved to clothing design and led to her appliqued children’s clothing business, Little Miss Shabby. Corey spent a number of years designing and selling her creations until the birth of her youngest daughter, Elonie, in 2009. At that time, Corey focused once again on quilts, specifically quilt design.
Her quilt designs are often traditional with a modern twist. Corey’s quilt patterns have been published in numerous magazines, collaborative books, and most recently she authored her first book, Playful Petals.

INSPIREDThis past year, I sent my youngest daughter off to Kindergar-ten. As a stay at home mom for the last 10 years this was an exciting and bittersweet step. Last spring, discussing a possible job opportunity with my friends, I mentioned how interested I had become in designing fabrics. After chatting for a bit about fabric design, one of my friends matter-of-factly said, “Well, you should just do that.” And so, armed with encour-agement and a can do attitude, Prairie was born.
Prairie is the warmth and golden colors of a late summer af-ternoon. It is those last few lazy days when the bright, riotous colors of the season meld into the rich days of fall. It is where wildflowers grow in their brilliance along fences and in fields and little feet run barefoot to meet them. To me, Prairie signi-fies those last carefree days of summer before a new season begins filled with fresh adventure. Enjoy the ride! - Corey

Inspired by a rich family heritage of generations of women who love and loved sewing and creating, Sherri began to sew when she received a sewing machine for her tenth birth-day. One of our ancestors, Bright Sun, was the daughter of Big Elk, chief of the Omaha tribe in the early 1800’s. Her lovely name seemed the perfect title for our first collection. Kate Spain has carried a sketchbook since she was a child. She eventu-ally drew her way to the Rhode Island School of Design where she earned a BFA in Graphic Design. It was there that she began to refine her visual voice through drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, glassblowing, and graphic art. Since her school days, she has worked to develop and expand her unique style through experimentation, travel, and by always keeping her sense of wonder. Kate’s designs have been featured on products at Crate and Barrel, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Frontgate, Target, and other leading retailers. Her designs can be found on many home décor items including rugs, pillows, kitchen textiles, tableware, and fabric. “I am so happy to create collections exclusively for Moda and to share them with you and other quilters and crafters around the world. I’m an avid gardener and much of my inspiration can be found in Nature – an unlikely color combination that lures me in, a simple flower that I’d never looked at so closely before, random patterns like sandpiper tracks, fern fronds, willow buds. In the studio, I try to translate these natural inspirations into designs. No matter where I begin my design process, I always end up in a new place. I hope you enjoy where your creativity and wonder take you! They’re all yours.”
INSPIREDWhen I was 9 years old, my Mom took my sister and me to the New York Botanical Gardens. She let us each buy a plant from the gift shop, and I picked a small, round cac-tus. It was the perfect plant for me then, because it didn't ask for much and I didn't give it much. Despite that, year in and year out, it bloomed! Each time it does, my imagina-tion wanders westward to wide-open spaces and sunsets in big skies — to the same place where I found inspiration for my new fabric collection, Canyon. This line was inspired by the high mesa, and is ablaze with lush colors, hand-drawn and painted patterns of desert blooms, succulents, pulsing flocks of starlings, and Native American basket motifs. This glowing collection includes colors of sunset rose, soothing aloe, vivid cactus-hued greens, as well as amethyst purple, agave silver blue, and sandstone grays. Let your imagina-tion wander too!
