How does it work? Jessica and Lorenzo scour the graduate shows and exhibitions for new designers to find the most exciting crop of talent. They work in partnership with selected designers to develop a product or product range that they feel fits with the spirit of Mockbee & Co. collections. These maybe versions of existing designs or completely new concepts and the process can take weeks or months. The majority of products are then handcrafted or manufactured by the team of Mockbee & Co. All our products and designs are made in the UK.

The design 'Ahwahnee' is based on the Ahwahnee hotel in Yosemite National Park. The hotel was specifically designed to highlight the natural surroundings. Once a village to the native Miwoks, a Native American Tribe, Ahwahnee now takes pride of place. The hotel was built after being influenced by the Native American tribes, Art Deco, Middle Eastern and Arts and Crafts movements which is reflected throughout. Danielle was especially taken aback by the designs on the walls, detailed borders with Geometric patterns and also the tiled flooring reflecting the Native American/ Art Deco feel.

This design has been inspired by the intricate details found when visiting the Old Town Alexandria in Virgina, Washington DC. Using the Harbor as an area of focus, Danielle extracted detailing to create the working repeat. The dominant inspiration for 'Alexandria' was iron detailing found along the pier.

Colorado

by Yard Sale Project

Colorado is a sideboard with clear references to trees, rivers and nature, without obvious plagarised motifs. It wears its traditional shape easily, whilst creating a rigorously contemporary notion of how we should view the domestic interior. A truly handcrafted piece and whilst traditional in shape, it is made of a wonderful selection of woods; new, old and very old with gold leaf running through.

Set up in 2010, Yard Sale Project is Ian Spencer and Cairn Young and together they create one-off and small batch pieces of furniture that combine the unique design skill of Young with the making talents of Spencer. The Chaos technique used in the construction of a lot of their work is inspired by the meeting point of several ideas, mainly to do with playing with forms, symmetry and colour.

Technical details:

- Three drawers, each on fully extending soft-close concealed runners

- Two doors on solid brass hinges

- Woods used: holly, maple, sycamore, ash, pear, oak cherry, yew, iroko, padauk, mahogany, walnut, wedge, ebony and bog oak (this last one being a 5500 year old semi-fossilised wood dug up from former peat-bogs in Norkfolk, it is the rarest wood in the world!)

- Width: 160 cms

- Height: 76 cms

- Depth: 56 cms

- Lead time: 6 weeks

Kit Miles is a luxury wallpaper, textiles and interior surface design studio based in the heart of London. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2011, gaining his MA in textile design Kit went on to found his eponymous label working with prestigious interior design clients and retailers alike. The creative output of this dynamic young studio has gained international press attention from the likes of the Financial Times and Elle Décor Italia.

Kit found inspiration from ornamental metal cages blended with the stark qualities found in modernist grids. "I liked the idea of the viewer looking beyond into another space and the beautiful incarceration.  Originally the design was intended to be for furniture and played on 3 dimensional effects on 2 dimensional surfaces. Through the very physical process of rug manufacture we found an equilibrium between this aesthetic language of "Fretwork" and the beautiful materiality of the 100% silk pile."
