I. Introduction of Attendees A list of 29th Coordination Meeting attendees, indicating the meetings they attended, has been incorporated into this document.

II. Chairman’s Remarks – Jim Kabbara, FAA

I thank all those who participated in the 29th MMPDS Coordination Meeting held in Queen Mary, Long Beach California on the 20th of September 2016. I hope those who stayed at the Queen Mary enjoyed their “ghostly experience”. My nine years old daughter, when she heard that I going to be at the Queen Mary told be me to be careful, as the ship is haunted. My special appreciation to Battelle for yet another fantastic job of organizing and managing the MMPDS activities.

I would like to personally welcome the new participant, Blue Origin, who recently joined the MMPDS. Their participation is a testimony to the wide world importance of the MMPDS as the major depository source of material data for designing and analyzing aerospace structures.

Again, thank you for attending the 29th MMPDS Coordination Meeting and for your dedication for maintaining MMPDS as the premier source in the world for metallic material properties used in the design of aerospace structures. I look forward to seeing in the next upcoming MMPDS Coordination Meeting.

Thank you,

Jim Kabbara

III. Approval of the 28th MMPDS Meeting Minutes

The 28th MMPDS Coordination Meeting Minutes were approved with the changes to Item 16-08 for 718 elevated temperature allowable properties and to the Closed Items presented in the following section.

Corrections to 28th Meeting Minutes

Item 16-08 Addition of Elevated Temperature A- and B-basis for 718 Alloy. Correction: Product thickness range in table was shown as 0.250-0.500 inches and should be 0.250-5.000 inches. Footnote b was also corrected to read; The rounded T99 for Ftu(L) is 148 ksi, for Ftu(T) is 150 ksi and for Fty(T) is 128 ksi.

MaterialsContinued

B. Young reviewed the 28th agenda. R. Reinmuller suggested warnings may need to be

included in MMPDS if a material is strain rate sensitive. D. Hall suggested that

producers be required to identify if their material is strain-rate sensitive, by running at

range within ASTM. J. Rossi reviewed history on NADCAP removal of strain rates in their

requirements, their intention was that the AMS metals specs include the rates. S.

Thompson noted that unfortunately, AMS Committee G did not want to include the

rates above yield. Discussions was that it is not within our scope to require rates, but

we can require that material be run at 2 rates to determine if it is strain rate sensitive.

Agenda for spring will propose that the strain rate sensitivity be determined for MMPDS.

Guidelines for When Specimens Are Not

The Handout did not include S. Fantle' s latest mark-ups. His revised text is included in

the minutes. There were discussions on how the testing is done not at set size blocks,

but at various sizes. This would make it complex to include a thickness row as proposed.

Suppliers need to show if the material is sensitive to section thickness. Erin McDevitt

wants guidance rather than footnotes. Direction is requested on requirements to show

if a material is sensitive to size and the limits of the size.

GSG is opposed to making this change due to various reasons and could not resolve how

they would approach this. Mark James provided the FAA summary included in the

minutes. S. Fantle noted that Boeing procedure is to lower their values. Agreed action:

the discussion on reduction of B-basis will not be reconsidered for 10 years.

does not want to add FCGR data, thus the item is closed without that information.

The recommendation to move the section to Chapter 1 and include this method was

approved. It should be noted that this method does not include thickness as a variable.

J. Goodman commented that if regression was used for the baseline, there may not have

additional information for this instance be added. Have J. Goodman review regression

addition. An agenda will be proposed. Include multiple confidence levels in proposal.

Continued

It appears that separate curves are needed for castings vs wrought, at least. E. McDevitt

agreed that effect of temperature would vary for product form due to metallurgical

reasons. Since 1500F is beyond typical usage for this alloy, the curves at this

temperature may not be of interest for inclusion in MMPDS for design. It would be of

interest to include time/temperature curves. J. Rossi and E. McDevitt may be able to

provide data. Action: Develop curve for cast & hip combined and a curve for sheet.

Make an urgent request for bar and forging data to substantiate the existing curve.
