Mom. I’m SO excited to work with all of you guys and I

know this is going to be a fantastic year. In this release,

you will find a questionnaire (please fill out and return to

me by October 5th!), tips on recruitment, and important

things your MITs need to know. I hope you find this help-

ful and if you have any questions at all, please don't hesi-

tate to ask!

I know you all have had your Intakes already (YAY for all the new mem-

bers...so exciting!) but this year, we’re not stopping in September. Re-

cruitment should be YEAR-ROUND; it’s so important to get as many new

members as possible.

• Call your temple, JCC, or other Jewish group in your community. Ask for a list of

high school students and their phone

numbers.

• Once you get a list of potential members, call them! However, don't make all the

calls yourself. Divide the calls between yourself and other ENTHUSIASTIC and

ACTIVE members.

• Contact the callers at least 3 days before the calls need to be made and give

them the necessary information about the next program.

• The caller needs to:

-Introduce herself and explain that she is from BBYO

-Explain reason for calling (upcoming program)

-Give details (date, place, time)

-Offer a ride to the event

-Be enthusiastic and ask if they have any friends who can be contacted

• Send out information (via email, snail mail, etc.) about BBYO/the

program before you make your calls. That way, the call isn't

surprising.

• Make calls no later than 7 days before the event. Then, send out an email re-

minder as the event gets closer.

• Only make the calls if you are planning to attend!

• If someone says she can’t make it, ask why; however, don’t be too pushy! Of-

fer alternatives if they can’t make it.

• Introduce them to the rest of the chapter. • When talking in a large group, make sure they feel included and include them in the conversation.

• Don’t use “BBYO language.” Instead of saying you’re the “MIT Mom,” tell them you’re in charge of membership for the chapter.

• Have each member write down their name, number, and email address on the signup sheet. Make sure to also have BBYO registration forms available for them to fill out there!

• Before they leave, tell them about the next couple of events so they can plan ahead.

• Make sure you keep in contact with the prospective members who attended, as well as the ones who couldn't attend.

• Call the girls who came and let them know how excited the chap-ter was to have them there. Remind them about the next event, as well.

• Add them on Facebook and keep in touch! • Build a relationship. These girls will keep coming to events if they know they have a friend in the chapter.

• Invite them to your chapter Facebook group. • Give your Mazkirah the prospective members’ phone numbers for their calling list.

• Explain how to use B-linked.org to the new members (IMPORTANT: b-linked is not working that well right now, so tell them to contact their city directors if they have any ques-tions!)

• CONTINUE TO USE THE ORIGINAL PROSPECTIVE MEMBER LIST THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. Just because some-one didn't come to one event does not mean they aren't inter-ested.

IMPORTANTIMPORTANTIMPORTANTIMPORTANT: DON’T spend too much time teaching new members these things until they’re becoming comfortable with BBYO. You don’t want to overwhelm members who are still getting used to the BBYO environment.

Knowing about the basics of BBYO will help them understand and grasp the idea of our wonderful or-ganization! overview of each. If you want to be extra helpful, which I know all

of you do :), it would be fantastic to inform the MITs what to bring

to each convention! (clothes, etc.)

Explain the basics of CLTC, ILTC, Kallah, Project Impact, etc. The

most important one is CLTC! Include pictures, stories, or anything

else that will make the girls want to go. If you haven’t been, ask a

girl who has to write something short about it.

Explain each position, what they do, when they’re elected, and who

currently holds each position! Make sure you tell them that one day

it could be them!
