JS - 13 TO THE MEMBERS OF THE PROVINCE DECEMBER 09, 2018
My dear Confreres,
Fraternal greetings to each of you.
We are in the second week of advent. It is a grace-filled moment
of preparing ourselves to receive the Messiah, Christ our Lord
into our hearts and into this world in faith and hope. It is the
season where the whole world gears up for the celebration of
Christmas and the revelation of the mystery of Incarnation.
Advent is a season for prayer and renewal of our hearts. This
graceful season reminds all of us cautiously to have spiritual
preparations to remove all the unnecessary stocks of worldly
admirations that blocks God’s entry into our lives. In this Advent season, may we be
even more encouraged, hopeful, and purposeful, looking with passion for the
coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Wishing you all a very meaningful Advent and
prayerful preparation for the celebration of Christmas.
VISITATION TO ZAMBIA MISSION
October 20 to November 02, 2018 were
certainly the memorable and grace-filled days
of visitation to our Zambia mission where four
of our confreres Fr. Jude, Fr. Amal, Fr Britto
and Fr. Sahayaraj presently minister to the
faithful. Mission Zambia is a dream that
eventually became a tangible reality in the life
of Pune Province as 3 of our committed and
dedicated pioneering missionaries landed in
Zambia on 22nd August 2013 and further
strengthened by our confreres who joined
them latter. Today we have two parishes namely St. Francis De Sales parish at Liteta
(Kabwe Diocese) and St. Gabriel parish at Ndeke (Lusaka Diocese). We have
2
successfully completed 5 years of our effective and witnessing presence as a
Congregation in this part of the continent of Africa.
VISIT TO OUR FRANSALIAN MISSION HOME AND ST. FRANCIS DE SALES
PARISH AT LITETA
Our mission in Zambia began in a place
called Liteta, in the Diocese of Kabwe,
located in the Central Province. Liteta
which was a small Sub-center handed
over to the Fransalians for its pastoral
care. It was declared a Parish under the
patronage of St. Francis De Sales on 5th
October, 2014 by Rt. Rev. Clement
Mulenga, the Bishop of Kabwe Diocese
with 14 Sub-centers spread over 60km radius. Some of them are in the very remote
area without proper approach roads with grass thatched roof, altar and benches
made of clay.
Our parish in Liteta has about 5000 Catholics. The parish had neither a residence for
priest nor church building to gather for liturgical celebration. In our parish we have
about 10 tribes speaking 10 tribal languages. Our parish comes under the LENJE
Tribal Chiefdom. The liturgical language used in our parish is NYANJA.

ST. FRANCIS DE SALES PARISH HALL PROJECT AND FAITH FORMATION
We have begun the construction of the parish hall. The stage one of the hall project is
over but needs more funds to complete the hall. Some of the Faith Formation
Programmes are Formation for catechists, catechizers and prayer leaders. Regular
house visits have tremendous effect on the people. Many people have come back to
the Catholic Church. We have baptized more than a thousand people in these years.
Regular catechism classes for over 1500 children. Annual retreat preaching has
renewed the lives of the people in a very large. Formation of intercessory prayer
groups and charismatic/evangelization teams for proclamation of the word.
VISIT TO ST. GABRIEL PARISH, NDEKE- MEANWOOD
(ARCHDIOCESE OF LUSAKA)
At the invitation of the archbishop of Lusaka Fransalians entered the diocese of
Lusaka. A small developing residential colony 3 Km from the international airport
was handed over to the missionaries for developing it. It was a Small Christian
community of a parish that was about 10 km away from the place. It was far for
people to receive regular pastoral care. This place equally did not a have a land or a
structure for people to have gathering. Once a while people had community mass in
any of the homes of the people. Fr. Jude was appointed Priest in-charge on 20th
November 2016. The people found a house on rent for the priest to reside.
Meanwhile the community applied to the developer for a plot of land for the parish.
4
The company allotted three plots of one acre each for the parish. Since then people
organized themselves and had many fundraising programme. So far they managed
to pay for the two plots of land. Hope to pay for the third plot in the year 2019.
The community initially put up a small shed where they could celebrate mass on
Sundays. Later this structure was developed into a mini multipurpose hall. The
priest resides in a rented house near the plot of land. Daily mass is celebrated in the
residence of the priest. On 8th April 2018 on the feast of Divine mercy the centre was
erected into a parish under the patronage of St. Gabriel the Archangel. Initially the
community had a catholic population of 200 members. In a year’s time the number
has doubled. More and more people are settling down in this residential area that is
developing. The diocese is planning to handover two outstations of nearby parishes
and add the same to the parish. It’s a vibrant community and has a mammoth task
ahead. This centre being closer to the International airport serves as a transit house
for the mission. Language of the place is predominantly English. However we have
mass in vernacular language as well. That is NYANJA.
FUTURE PLANS
Mission of Fransalians have taken a deep root in the soil of Zambia. Keeping the
various avenues in mind the mission has the following future plans for the mission.
1. To start recruiting candidates into formation and start a come and see programme at Liteta. This is to implant the congregation in the soil.
2. Education is need of the hour. The congregation has acquired a plot of land to plan for a boarding secondary school at Liteta.
3. Direct evangelization and re-evangelization is much needed. Developing Liteta into a centre of new evangelization and faith formation for Zambia.
4. To take up another mission centre near Liteta.
5
5. The congregation has a small shop selling religious articles. Plan to establish a full-fledged shop for religious articles.
6. To purchase a plot of Land near our parish at Lusaka for a transit house.
7. To have a pre-primary school at Ndeke- Meanwood.
8. Clean drinking water project. Digging of boreholes and providing safe and clean drinking water to the rural area.

NEW MISSION CENTRE AT DIAGAD, SILVASSA
Our Fransalian community at
Galonda, Silvasa is blessed with
new parish community at Diagad
as part of our mission. It is
located at the border of Gujarat,
twenty four kilometers away
from our residence at Galonda.
Rejuvenating the clarion call of
our founder, “I want missions”,
we set our mission by a prayerful
visit on our Founder’s day and
have decided to have regular holy Mass cum rosary at 8:30 am every Sunday.
The holy Mass was held at one of the houses, since we have no common place for the
same. The Eucharist was celebrated by Fr. Christopher and assisted by Dn. Charles.
We were given a cordial and grand welcome. The great challenge ahead of us is to
teach them every little prayer, hymns and things regarding the faith and church
matters. We determined to visit every family to uplift their standard both in faith
and life. We look ahead God’s mercy and Holy Spirit with the support of Mary our
Mother of Compassion to carry out this mission with love and joy.
