Maximillion, our bookworm, keeps growing and growing! He can be seen in the gym lobby and stretching down the main hallway. As of yesterday, our stu-dents have read 293,668 minutes since the beginning of December. For each 2,000 minutes read, a segment is added to his body. He now has 146 body seg-ments, and the students are excited to see him grow. Maximillion serves as a visual reminder of the progress our students are making towards reaching our goal of 1,000,000 minutes read by the end of the school year. The students are well on their way! Each week students who have reached weekly goals get to put their name into a drawing. Names are drawn on Wednesday mornings, and the winners of the drawing are able to select a free book and a snack as their prize. Parents, we appreciate your support of this initiative to help our students be-come even better readers than what they already are!

East Noble High School

All East Noble parents are invited to a safety input meeting on Monday, January 28 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium conducted by Ken Trump of Na-tional School Safety and Security Services. In addition to the parent meeting, Ken Trump and his associate will be visiting all East Noble schools January 28-30 to assess our school facilities as well as our crisis pre-vention and intervention plans. These safe-ty specialists assist schools throughout the nation in examining security practices and emergency preparedness planning. We look forward to their feedback.

TinCaps Reading Program

Students in preschool through grade six are invited to participate in the TinCaps reading program from February 1-March 1. If students meet each of the four goals set by their teacher, they will receive a ticket to a TinCaps baseball game on Friday, April 26 as well as a voucher for a free hot dog and drink. Families will be able to purchase additional tickets to the game at a discounted price. A special order form will be sent home on Friday, March 4. All the order forms will then be submitted to the TinCaps ticketing office together so that Wayne Center families can sit together at the game. If you and your child are not able to attend the game on April 26 the free ticket can be applied to another non-firework game during the 2013 season. Look for a letter from your child’s teacher outlining the reading goals set for your child next week. More infor-mation regarding the game and tickets will be sent home at the end of the reading program.
