You Can Make a Difference! We’ve all done it—
gone somewhere and took a napkin or two more than
we needed, only to throw them away unused. If every-
one in the USA used one less napkin a day, current
figures show that it could save a billion pounds of
space in landfills.
Welcome to Mission San Diego! Hi, my name is Deacon Bill Zondler, soon to be
ordained a priest and assigned here to the Mission! I
am so excited to start my journey as a priest with you.
I was born and raised in San Diego, moving all over
North County until my family settled in Encinitas
when I started high school. I went to UCSB for three years before
eventually transferring and graduating from Franciscan University of
Steubenville in 2011.
I’ve been studying at Mt. Angel Seminary for the last five years and
have finally graduated!
I was overjoyed to hear I would be assigned to you for many reasons.
One specific reason was that at first when I felt called to be a priest I
was taking steps to become a Franciscan. Throughout my time in
seminary for the Diocese of San Diego, I always felt close to
St. Francis and St. Junipero Serra and the Franciscan charism.
I am excited to start my journey as a priest here at this special and
historical place where St. Junipero first brought the Gospel to San
Diego!
Please know of my prayers for you this summer as I study Spanish
before joining you on September 1st! God bless. Deacon Bill Zondler
Deacon Zondler will be ordained a priest of the diocese on June 9 at 4:00
p.m. at St. Therese of Carmel (4355 Del Mar Trails Road). All are invited.
Celebrate Father’s Day this year by enrolling your
father and all those who give paternal care and
love, in a Novena of Masses. During our Father’s
Day Novena, we will remember those special men
who have nurtured us throughout our lives, both
living and deceased, and we will call upon several
retired priests to assist us in offering these Masses.
Our Novena will begin on Father’s Day, June 18.
Stop by the Parish Office or Gift Shop and pick up
a card to arrange for your father to be included in
these nine days of prayers.

SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT
Last week we heard that, following the Ascension, the
disciples, Mary, and other followers of the Lord retreated
to the upper room in prayer. This week we hear that, while
praying in that room, the Holy Spirit comes upon them.
Jesus’ post-Resurrection promise, recounted in today’s
Gospel, is fulfilled: the power of the Holy Spirit comes
upon Jesus’ followers. Saint Paul tells us that all of us, in
some way, are given gifts of the Holy Spirit, gifts that can
be used to spread the Good News. Today is one of the
Church’s greatest festivals. Let us carry the refrain of the
responsorial psalm with us throughout the coming week:
“Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the
earth!” (Psalm 104:30). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
