    Lesson: Best cars of the year

    Lesson aims:- to develop S's reading competences- to develop S's speaking competences

    - to give Ss practice in using the degrees of comparison of the adjectives

    Skills involved: speaking, reading, writingAids: blackboard, textbook, work-sheets, images

    Stages:

    Activity 1 - Warm-up

    General competence: to interact in spoken or written communication

    Specific competence: to correct mistakesMethod: dialogue

    Procedure: Teacher (T) checks homework first. Ss had to do some vocabulary exercises

    related to the previous lesson and an exercise with adjectives, which have been revised. Ssread their homework and correct it if necessary.

    Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T

    Class management: whole class activity

    Timing: 5'-10'

    Activity 2 - Lead-in

    General competence: to understand written or oral messages

    Specific competence: to compare things

    Method: gameProcedure: 1. T asks a student who is good at drawing to come out and draw 2 large palms

    on the board. He/she has to draw one palm up and one palm down. Then T elicits from the

    class the vocabulary needed to describe a hand. The words are written on the 2 hands onthe board.

    2. Then in pairs Ss are asked to compare their hands from as many aspects as possible.

    3. Ss form 3 circles. One student is designated by the leader of the group to go round the

    group and find out who has the biggest hand. When they find the person, they say: 'X has

    the biggest hand in the group'Successive students are designated to find:

    The cleanest hand

    The driest hand

    The most interesting hand

    Procedure: 1. Ss are asked to number some features of a car in order of importance and

    then they have to explain their decision. Ss work in groups.2. T asks Ss to read some questions about cars in order to find out their answers when

    reading the text.

    Activity 4 - ReadingGeneral competence:

    - to understand written messages

    - to interact in spoken communicationSpecific competence: identify specific information

    Method: dialogue/discussion

    Procedure: As the class is split into groups, each group has to read one paragraph of thelesson. They have to find the answers to the questions they have read before. In order to do

    this they have to underline in their paragraph the sentences that lead them to the questions.
