Mission: Earth

How can we create infrastructure that

sustains a healthy planet?

Photo: NASA

In a time of constrained budgets and competing priorities,

direct investment in pure sustainability measures cannot

be counted on to address environmental challenges.

Through broader, longer-term thinking, we need to capture

the opportunities inherent in every infrastructure

investment to yield benefits on social, economic and

ecological planes.

- Gary Lawrence, chief sustainability officer, AECOM

Missed opportunities

Many perspectives shape the built

environment. Too often, each

focuses on its own goals and

methods. This inhibits better

outcomes that could emerge from

broader thinking.

Infrastructure can simultaneously

address a variety of social,

economic and ecological

challenges to deliver wider

benefits and value.

Integrated thinking

design and high performance,

gray infrastructure and green

infrastructure, commercial growth

and community cohesion.
