Mathematics Wall Have you seen the fabulous mathematics wall in our foyer? Students from KM popped by to see if they could solve the puzzles. Thank you to Mrs Dragarski for making such a wonderful display for us all to enjoy.
Last week only one student managed to solve my maths puzzle and provide the correct explanation: Congratulations to Josh from 2/3W! The answer was 9pm. Here is this week’s tricky number puzzle:

School Excursion at Canberra
Places we went On our Stage Three excursion to Canberra we went to the Australian War Memorial, Parliament House, the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport), Questacon, Telstra Tower and Mount Ainsley. First we went to the Australian War Memorial. At the Memorial we went into the discovery zone, there we saw all different things like trenches and submarines. We also went to Parliament House where we visited the House of Representative and the Senate. We saw where the Prime Minister and Queen sit. In Parliament House it has marble and gold everywhere. Another place we went to was the AIS. When we were there we took a tour around the building and got free time in the end. One of the last places we went was Telstra tower and it was super high; you could see the whole of Canberra! And the last place we went to was Questacon! Questacon, to most kids, was definitely a favourite. Questacon was a Science Centre and there was a robot, a slide and heaps of cool things.
Cabins and Buses In the cabins there were 4 people and two bunk beds in each, you also got your own shower, toilet, and sink.

Places We Have Been On our trip to the Bush Capital we travelled in the bus for three and a half hours. The bus we made the journey on was first class, it included reclining seats, toilets underneath and curtains. It was surprisingly quiet. We visited six incredible places that we will definitely remember. Questacon was the last place we went to but everyone wanted to stay for longer. The War Memorial was very quiet and we learned heaps of important information and learned an even deeper respect for the fallen.
The AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) was another big favourite. We learned and saw where the athletes train and even got to test simulations of what some of the sports people do, like bike racing and canoeing. Telstra Tower was cold but very cool because we got to look out over the city of Canberra.
Cabins were small but cosy and provided us with shelter and warmth for the night, even if not many of us got any sleep. The food was disgusting but we ate it anyway.
We would like to thank the teachers for putting in the effort for making the most of this trip. We would also like to thank our parents for paying and allowing us to go.
PS - no one got sick :)

Canberra On Tuesday 12 June, Stage Three went on an exciting Canberra excursion. To get to Canberra on time we had to wake up at 5:00am and board the bus at 6:15am. The bus ride took a long three and a half hours. When we arrived Stage Three had an extraordinary time at the War Memorial. We walked around and saw what life was like in the tragic wars. After that we travelled to the National Exhibition Centre. When we were there we learnt about how the town was made and who made it. As it was lunchtime, we then rode on our five star bus to Mount Ainslie. When group three got there we had our lunch. After that, bus three took a 15 minute drive to our cabins. When everyone arrived we had showers and got changed for dinner. For dinner we had spaghetti and meatballs. Once we had finished dinner we were off to the AIS. Once we got there we looked at all sorts of sporting places including, gymnasium, gym, volleyball, swimming pool and more. After that we went home and got into our pjs and started to settle and calm down.
The next morning we woke up and had breakfast which was bacon and eggs. We excitingly arrived at Parliament House after breakfast and looked at the House of Representatives as well as the senate. When that was done we went to Telstra Tower and enjoyed the amazing view. Not very long after it was lunch. For lunch we had a salad wrap. When we were done with lunch we crossed the road and had a fun time at Questacon and then had a three and a half hour drive home on the bus. Everyone in Stage Three got home at 7:00pm.

On Tuesday 12 June all Stage Three students had to be at school by 6.00am so they didn’t miss the bus trip to Canberra. We left school at 6:15am and arrived in Canberra at about 9:30am - 10:00am. The bus trip to Canberra was fun and quiet because lots of people had fallen asleep. About half way through the trip we had a toilet break and had a little snack! At the accommodation they provided us with meatballs, undercooked pasta, and garlic bread. Most kids from Stage Three did not like much of the dinner provided. Dessert was a scoop of ice cream and apple pie. At 7:30pm after dinner, we left to go to the Institute of Sport. It was a very fun experience for the kids. We got to see where the athletes trained such as, gymnasts, swimmers, the gym where the athletes train and the volleyball athletes. After that we had free time in a room where all the students got to experience fun activities.
Breakfast on Wednesday morning was really well cooked and tasting delicious. We had a choice of scrambled eggs, bacon, toast or cereal. Questacon was the students’ favourite place. We got to walk around with
Page 3
our friends and do fun activities for two and a half hours. We got to buy things at the gift shop and the cafe. There were lots of different rooms with fun activities to keep ourselves occupied. By the end of the two and a half hours most of the students were tired and ready to board the bus and start the trip home. Canberra Stage Three excursion was alright, it would’ve been better and more fun if all of Year 6 weren’t split.

Canberra Highlights!
Multicultural Public Speaking
On Monday 25 June, four students will travel to Mt Saint Thomas Public School for a Multicultural Public Speaking competition. We wish all of the students well and know we will be proud of them.
Good luck Jayda L, Chelsea S, Ebony B and Amali P!
Stage 2 Science Space Excursion
Stage 2 went to Science Space in Wollongong on Thursday 7 June. At Science Space we watched 2 shows and got to have free time. In the Centre we learnt about heat, planets, water, electronic objects and much more.
When we arrived at the Science Centre everyone ate their lunch. Then we were put into 2 groups, 1 group watched a show in the Planetarium while the other group had free time and looked around the Centre.
We saw lots of cool things during free time. One of the main attractions was the building blocks/construction site. As well as that there were electronic dinosaurs and a small ball and chain that knocks over dominoes as the world orbits.
We watched 2 shows, 1 was called the Planetarium and the other was a Water Show. In the Planetarium we watched a short movie on planets and what types of planets they are (gas giants, rocky midgets, ice giants).
After we looked at everything we visited the gift shop. At the gift shop there were jewels, geodes, howlite and much more.
The Science Space excursion was awesome!

SRC Talent Show
We are getting excited about our Talent Show being held on the last day of Term 2. We have had so many children wanting to share their talents. Unfortunately, we are unable to take anymore acts for our show, due to time constraints. We already have a waiting list and those children will be informed of their inclusion if another act withdraws.

Garden Club News
The Garden Club are always looking for inventive ways of growing successful, healthy crops in the veggie garden. So we have recently created and planted strawberries into a pyramid to gain maximum growth within minimal space that is a feature piece of the school veggie garden.

Technology in the Library
Students in 3-6 are being shown how to be effective library users by navigating the Orbit website through their personal devices. Students can check to see if they have any overdue books, they can view any new books in the library and they can reserve books that interest them.
Students can access the Orbit site from home by logging into the DET student portal and following the link to Oliver Library. Parents are encouraged to peruse the
Orbit website with their child to see their borrowing habits, search for potential books to borrow and to locate any overdue books that might be lost at home.
Mrs De Heaume Librarian Wollongong Choral Festival
On Monday, 30 children from Stage 2 attended a mass rehearsal for the Wollongong Choral Festival. They performed unison and part songs and mastered some tricky actions along with children from Coniston, Mount Kembla, Port Kembla and Gwyneville public schools.
The children had a fabulous day of singing. While there were storm clouds outside, sound coming from inside the Port Kembla school hall was fabulous.
They are now looking forward to the 'big' performance at the Wollongong Town Hall on Tuesday 7 August.
