MinifogWater mist technology for a wide range of applications
WATER MIST
EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS
Persons, physical assets and the environmentare safely protected by Minimax’s water misttechnology. Minifog fights the fire very effe c-tively – and with a minimum amount of water.
The Minifog extinguishing technology is char- acterized by an extremely efficient use of thephysical properties of water. Minifog nozzlesand Minifog sprinklers atomise the water intovery small droplets, which go together with a drastic increase in water surface. Thus, thewater absorbs the heat more efficiently, the fire and its environment are effectively cooleddown. Moreover, as a result of the small water droplets evaporating in the fire, a greatamount of heat is absorbed. At the same timethe resulting water vapour interrupts oxygensupply to the fire: this reduction of the oxygenconcentration around the flame zone means an additional smothering effect.
The nozzle arrangement and the optimal dropletspectrum mean that the water reaches the firesource even if disruptive factors, such as thethermal effects of the fire or air movements arepresent.
Whether used for the protection of areas or for specific objects, or as a fire extinguishingunit – all the various versions of Minifog offer a high level of customer benefit.
Minifog EconAqua
With its use of innovative low-pressure watermist technology the Minifog EconAqua watermist sprinkler system offers a particularly effective form of building protection for specific risks in accordance with VdS CEA 4001or NFPA 13.
Design and function correspond with those ofclassic sprinkler systems. Water mist sprinklersare installed throughout the areas to be pro-tected. In the event of a fire, only the watermist sprinklers located in the immediate vicinityof the fire source open up. This allows the fireto be fought immediately and using an ex-tremely small amount of finely sprayed water.Minifog EconAqua uses up to 85% less waterthan a classic sprinkler system.
Typical applicationsOffice and administration buildingsSkyscraperHotelsHospitals and nursing homesRestaurantsUnderground garages and multi-storey car parks, etc.

Minifog ObjectProtect
Minifog ObjectProtect is suitable for the pro-tection of objects where rapid spreading of thefire is to be expected. Normally electronic detectors are used for the rapid and reliable detection of a fire. In order to effectively prevent the fire from spreading, the water is finely sprayed throughout the entire protectedzone – e. g. in the area occupied by a produc-tion unit – thus suppressing the fire within afew seconds.
Typical applicationsGas and steam turbinesLarge and industrial fryersHydraulic unitsCable ductsPaint shopsEngine test bedsMachine tools, etc.
Minifog ObjectProtect is also ideally suited forthe preventive cooling of e.g. glass cladding orsteel structures.
Minifog mobile
The Minifog mobile product family is availablefor manual fire fighting using atomised water. The range includes both the portable fire extin-guisher and the high-pressure fire extin guishingunit. The Minifog mobile fire extinguisher is theideal instrument for fighting initial class A firesand fires involving lique fying plastics. Since atomised water is used, the duration of thespraying process is three times longer than thatof classic water extinguishers so that even un-trained users are able to put out a fire. The Minifog mobile fire extinguisher is used in pharmacies, hospitals, office and administrativebuildings, and in the protection of cultural assets.
The HDL 170 and HDL 250 high-pressure fireextinguishing units are equipped with a mobilehigh-pressure pump, hose reel and extinguish-ing gun. They are used to extinguish class A and class B fires. If required the unit can be setto introduce an admixing foaming agent. Thismakes the Minifog mobile high-pressure fire extinguishing unit also suitable for controllingdifficult fire scenarios such as vehicle fires.
AND VARIETY S
Impulse nozzle for the target-oriented objectprotection
Since 1993, Minimax has been installing water mist systems based on its experiencesfrom hundreds of fire tests in Minimax’s ownresearch centre.
SOLUTIONSSpecial customer requirements also demandspecial solutions.
Minimax has therefore developed a series ofMinifog protection concepts that are especiallytailored to each particular application.
Minifog PressProtect
Increased fire risks are connected with the production of wood fibreboards using con-tinuous presses or multi-opening presses. WithMinifog PressProtect, Minimax offers a conceptbased on modern, low-pressure water mist technology, and one which is presently used toprotect almost 170 presses of this type around the world.
Rapid and reliable fire detection is ensured by infrared flame detectors. Because of the high operating temperatures they are partlyequipped with fibre optics. In addition, impulsenozzles with their unique spray pattern are anintegral part of the protection concept. They are arranged in and around the press so as toensure extremely effective fire fighting. As small amounts of evenly and finely sprayed water are used, a homogeneous cooling isachieved, thus minimising the risk of thermaldistortion of hot machine parts.
Minifog marine
Ships and offshore facilities such as oil platformsrequire a higher-than-average level of safetydue to the special conditions prevailing at sea.Minifog marine takes this into account by providing protection concepts developed andapproved in accordance with the safety regula- tions of national authorities and internationalclassification societies and in compliance withthe recommendations of SOLAS and IMO.
A highly efficient type of high-pressure watermist technology has been specially tailored tothe protection of cabins and public areas, aswell as to the protection of engine rooms, bilges and to the protection of objects. In addition an equally valuable and proven low-pressure system is avail able for the protectionof objects in engine rooms in accordance to current legislation.
Minifog SpecialSolutions
Besides the afore mentioned solutions for special customer requirements, Minimax offersfurther protection concepts – developed on thebasis of the Minifog water mist technology andtailored to each particular application. Examples of this include the Minifog systems for auto-matic parking systems, wind energy converters, railway vehicles and conveyors.
