MINI SANTA SOCK ORNAMENT .. Materials: light weight worsted weight yarn, about 2 yards of white, and 10 yards of any color, or about 12 yards of any combination of colors. 1 pr. U.S. size # 7 needles. 2 stitch holders Gauge: 5 stitches = 1 inch Directions: Beginning at top cuff of sock, with white , or any color, cast on 20 st. K across for 2 rows. Cut white, and join main color. ( if working in red , white , and blue, change colors every 2 rows.) Work stockinette stitch, ( K 1 row, P 1 row) for 8 rows. Divide for top of foot section: Knit across 7 sts, place these sts. On a holder, knit next 6 sts, place last 7 sts on holder. Purl back on the center 6 sts. Work stockinette st. on center 6 sts for 8 rows. Slip sts from right side of sock, ( knit side) onto needle and knit across: pick up 4 sts evenely spaced along instep of center piece just knitted. ( you will be actually picking up row sts), knit these sts, then knit across center 6 sts, pick up another 4 sts on opposite side of instep , or center piece, and knit these sts, then slip remaining sts to needle and knit across last sts. Purl across all sts. Work stockinette st for 4 rows, ending on a purl row. Bottom decrease: K 2 tog, K 8 sts, K 2 tog, K 4 sts, K 2 tog, K 8 sts, K 2 tog. Bind off in Purl st. Finishing: Sew bottom and back seam of sock. Weave in and trim any yarn ends. Fasten a loop of yarn at top seam for hanging loop , if desired. · Use these as package trims, tree trims, lapel pins, or mini gift holders for  jewelry, coins, ca ndy, etc .
