Ming Chuan University (MCU)-A Well-Known International University

Over its 61 years of development, MCU has become an international well-known university, which has cultivated over 140,000 alumni around the world. Beyond Taipei Campus, Jihe Complex, Taoyuan Campus, and Kinmen Location, MCU established a fifth location across the Pacific Ocean in 2013 in the state of Michigan of the United States. Currently the university has 11 schools (Management, Communication, Design, Information Technology, Tourism, Education & Applied Languages, Health Technology, Social Sciences, Law, Financial Technology, and International College), 2 doctoral degree programs, 30 masters’ degree programs, 38 bachelors’ programs in different professional fields, 6 English-taught bachelors’ degree programs, and 3 English-taught masters’ degree programs. Additionally, there are 2 masters’ degree programs offered at Michigan Location (Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language Program, and New Media and Communication Administration Program), and a third program for International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) is now under preparation.

International CollegeWith the implementation of internationalization,

MCU’s campus environments have been enriched by having diverse nationali t ies, races and languages co-exist on its campuses, making it the foremost multi-cultural education environment in Taiwan.

English is the required tool for teaching and communication in International College (IC); students are required to communicate and present in English, which cultivates learning in an environment of diverse languages and multiple cultures during their university life. MCU’s teaching environment is truly unique in Taiwan, especially among undergraduate programs.

In te rna t iona l Co l lege fea tu res a c lose combination of theory and cultivating students with high quality employability to meeting job market needs. To that end, IC actively advances international internships and learning mechanisms for students on the foundation of English-instructed curriculum. And in the case of entering the fashion market in Europe using French as a third language, MCU students are cultivated with high competiveness for global employment. Compared with other higher education institutions which cultivate similar young professionals, multilingual internships and learning environment is another special feature of IC.

Currently, there are over 20,000 students enrolled for study at MCU. Over the years, MCU has recruited students from 91 countries around the world, and every year there are students from around 60 different foreign countries studying at MCU. This year, 4,000 overseas students are enrolled, which ranks first place among private universities in Taiwan Moreover, MCU has been recognized as a friendly international university for all overseas students.

The university earned Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Accreditation on November 18, 2010, becoming the first U.S.-accredited university in Asia. Re-accreditation with MSCHE was granted to Ming Chuan for 10 years in 2016. This is the maximum re-accreditation term granted among U.S. accrediting entities. MCU remains the first and only U.S.-accredited university in Asia.

In regard to program accreditations, 12 MCU departments hold IEET international accreditation the School of Management earned AACSB accreditation in record time to join the elite 5% of Schools of Business around the world which have earned this accreditation.

By way of the 2017 QS Academic Survey , the M ing Chuan name was also promoted, and MCU was included in Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018, recognizing i t pub l ica l l y as one o f the top international universities in Asia.

In order to achieve the requi rement o f internationalization and globalization in both teaching and research, IC curriculum planning not only emphasizes equipping students with professional knowledge, but also strengthens them following market trends in the industry and job market.

IC appoints faculty members with professional experience for enhancing instruction in theory with experience in applications. Furthermore, in order to establish a complete international academic foundation for IC and cultivate talents for the market, instruction combines learning and practice using innovative, creative practice and case studies to cultivate students with business management ability, communication skills and professional abilities.

IC aims to cult ivate talents with global / international business management capacity. Even though IC has only been established for ten years, its graduates have demonstrated great abilities in diverse professional fields and society.

Following professional practice-oriented course design to prepare talents who meet the needs of the international fashion market, this program cultivates graduates’ innovation management, and develops a globalized employment learning platform for students. The direction of program development follows global market trends to cult ivate fashion management talents, and promote 3+1 curriculum planning. Students must complete 128 credits in 3 years, then fourth-year students will complete professional fashion courses with opportunities for exchange at MCU’s sister universities and for fashion industry internships. The program aims to develop students’ internationalization, internship global izat ion, and a mult i l ingual teaching environment.

industry from a business perspective. By using various fashion business models to design and analyze current trends, which will help students construct knowledge in the fashion business world.

2.The program focuses on international relations and diplomacy, research on cross-disciplinary theories (international relations, diplomacy, cross-cultural communications) and offers practical courses. time faculty members are all graduated from renowned universities around the world, including Northwestern University, University of Cambridge, University of Warwick, etc. Many faculty members have abundant practical experiences, as they have served as board members in industries, as diplomatic and consular personnel , and in NGO organizations.
