Homework Policy
Thank you to all of the families who have returned the note stating whether or not they want their child
to receive homework. Until that note is returned, MPS staff will not send homework home with your child
each week.
If you need another copy of the note, you are able to find a copy on our school website.
P&C Easter Raffle
Our P&C is holding the annual Easter raffle. This is a major fundraiser for the P&C. There are always plenty
of good quality chocolate eggs to be won. If you need more raffle booklets, please come and visit our
friendly office staff.

Our Very Own Global Ambassador
Our own Jack Munzer travelled to China during the holiday break for a Cultural
Exchange Program with GYAP (Global
Youth Ambassador Project).
Jack shared this experience with 300
students from Changsha and 30
students from Australia and England.

Congratulations to our MPS students for their selection to attend the following extra curricula performing arts activities for talented children in the region. Other News PULSE and School Choir have commenced rehearsing with 30 students participating from years 2‐6. Dance Sports stage 2 and 3 will commence this week with approximately 34 students in total. Jazz/ Lyrical Dance: 41 students attended the first rehearsal. Djembe Drumming and Mini Dance will commence the audition process soon. Approximately 20‐25 students per group will be selected. Concert and Training Bands have commenced on Mondays after school with 35 participants. Two vacancies for trombone/ baritone, one percussionist( drummer), and one saxophone vacancy still exists. If interested please contact Mrs Anderson. Concert Band will commence an exciting new venture with Erskine Park HS band and will combine on Tuesday afternoons during school time to rehearse and perform together. 6F have had an amazing and busy start to the year which included being the first Stage 3 class to host an assembly. For Mathematics, we have been learning about 2D shapes. In English, we have been learning to use sizzling starts in our writing. In Science we have been learning about different types of forces. In History we have been learning about Australian colonies. I am very lucky to be the teacher of such an amazing group of students. 2019 is going to be an amazing year! Mr Fitzgerald

‘Who are we?’: Staff Profiles Who is Miss He?
What is your role at MPS?: 1H classroom teacher
How long have you been at MPS?: This is my 3rd year.
What is your favourite colour?: Purple
What is your favourite holiday destination?: I can’t decide. I have travelled to
Japan, Fiji, New Zealand and China in the last year. Any opportunity to see the
world is a good holiday!
What do you like to do in your spare time?: I enjoy reading, going outdoors,
and getting together with my friends and family.
What activities are you involved in at MPS?: Positive Behaviour for Learning
(PBL), K‐2 Easter Hat Parade, K‐2 Sports Day, Grandparents Day, Reading Club,
Book Week and SRC.
What do you like about MPS?: I really love the students, friendly
families and the supportive staff.
What is your favourite teaching area/s?: English and mathematics.
What has been a highlight of your time at MPS to date?
A true highlight is watching the students grow and develop into fine, young
adults. It is so great to witness their different personalities flourish.
Are there any moments at MPS that have made you smile?
There are so many instances where I have
smiled at school, it is hard to recall just one.
I do love smiling when I see genuine smiles
and laughter from the children. It is a real
joy to witness!
Why are you a teacher? I love
learning and really treasure it. I think it is
incredibly valuable and that we are very
lucky to access it. Also, working with
children brings me a lot of joy. I think it’s
one of the best jobs in the world.

What is your role at MPS?: RFF Music and Coordinator of the
Performing Arts.
How long have you been at MPS?: A long time. 1995‐2019, at this stage.
What is your favourite colour?: Aqua
What is your favourite holiday destination?: Silverstar in Canada (a snow ski
resort)
What do you like to do in your spare time?: Water ski, snow ski, kayak,
canoe, camp, bushwalk, run a Venturer Scout Group. Attend musicals and
concerts. Favourite musicals: West Side Story, The Phantom of the Opera
What activities are you involved in at MPS?: I coordinate the Band Program
on Monday afternoons, also involved with PULSE choir, Mini Dance with Miss
Somi, Dance Sport with Miss Mackey.
What do you like about MPS?: Friendly staff and students.
What is your favourite teaching area/s?: Music
What has been a highlight of your time at MPS to date?
Can’t name one highlight, there have been too many. PULSE Concerts since
2007, Showtime Band Program and concerts since 2005, Reach and Shine
concerts, all the dance items I’ve been involved with over the years. Loved our
Showtime Flash mob when our conductor was dressed as Darth Vader. Seeing
my students enter the PULSE Band and Dance Programs, attending the Dance
Off Camps and seeing my students shine in the
moment.
Are there any moments at MPS that have made you
smile?
The Music Count Us In Day where every student
painted his/her hands yellow. Yellow paint was
everywhere (faces, legs, shoes, etc,) I also loved our
30th Birthday Celebrations.
Why are you a teacher? I guess I love
nurturing students with similar passions as mine
towards music and the Arts. I’m so proud of my
musicians and dancers and love it when they let me
know how well they’re doing in the Arts later on in life.
‘Who are we?’: Staff Profiles Who is Mrs Charlton? What is your role at MPS?: LaST – I work especially with students who need guidance,
assistance and help in developing their reading, writing and spelling skills.
How long have you been at MPS?: I started here in 1989. The week before the end of
first term, the department rang me to offer me an Executive Teacher position at – BIDWILL
PS! I accepted this position and I was back on the Special Education Unit.Moving forward to
2001, I retired from being the Assistant Principal at Hebersham PS and looked at being a
casual teacher. I began as a one day a week teacher in 2002, to becoming a temporary
teacher, working 5 days a week on class at the school until 3 years ago, when I was offered
the LaST position.
What is your favourite colour?: Blue seems to be the colour I like most of
all.
What is your favourite holiday destination?: This is extremely difficult, because of all the
countries I’ve visited through my involvement in playing hockey in tournament throughout
the world. So, I’d have to say anything in Europe!
What do you like to do in your spare time?: HA! What spare time! When I can grab this,
it is usually gardening at my place or reading a biography or autobiography on a sporting
personality that I know, through their sporting endeavours.
What activities are you involved in at MPS?: Anything to do with sport, or at present
organising classes to look after the gardens in the school.
What do you like about MPS?: The friendly staff and the
friendly, supportive community.
What is your favourite teaching area/s?: Anything to do with
sport and maths and of course handwriting!
What has been a highlight of your time at MPS to date?
Having all the fund‐raising activities at the school. The staff
and students really ‘get into it’ and they are all really good, fun‐
loving activities! The best one I think was the Colour Fun Run last
year! Together as a whole community the staff, parents and the
students had a fantastic time!!!
Are there any moments at MPS that have made you smile? Most conversations with the
staff or members of the community will usually put a ‘smile on my dial!’
Why are you a teacher? When my daughter was in year 2, I was helping out in
the classroom. The teacher asked me why I wasn’t a teacher? She organised all the
paperwork for me to apply for and begin my training. So, after 34 years of teaching I still
enjoy the challenge to nurture, guide and develop the students that I have taught over
those years and I still am doing what I enjoy most! I like the interaction that I have with the
school students and their parents/carers. I have developed long and lasting connections
with some of the students and their families that I’ve taught.

What do you like to do in your spare time?: Go to the beach, eat, dance and
spend time with my family and friends and my puppy, Willow.
What activities are you involved in at MPS?: Literacy Committee, K‐2 Sports
Day Committee, SRC and Performing Arts (Dance).
What do you like about MPS?: Our wonderful school community!

The 30th Anniversary Colour Run and attending the Dance Sports Championships
last year.
Are there any moments at MPS that have
made you smile?
There are too many to name! But, if I had to
pick one it would be seeing my 2018 Kindy’s
faces when we were on the tractor ride at
the farm. So many laughs and giggles!
Why are you a teacher? I wanted to
make a difference in students’ lives. I always
loved school, so I wanted to instil a love for
learning into the students I teach. I also had
a great teacher who I was lucky enough to
have in both year 3 and year 6 who inspired
me to be a teacher.

Health Tips
MPS Policies: Book Work Policy Rationale
In aiming to promote student pride in bookwork and presentation of all work, a focus on consistency of standards and expectations across the school has been developed.
The setting of high standards and expectations is a reflection of quality learning.
General expectations
Teachers are responsible for outlining the standards to students throughout the year and for providing encouragements and support for students to complete work as expected.
Students should be confident in:
what to do
what to use
how to set out their work
how / where to store their books
Setting Out:
Each piece of work should be titled and dated. The long date is to be used in handwriting books (e.g. 2 July 2018). The
short date is to be used in all other books (e.g. 2/7/18).
Teachers need to encourage students to colour or shade their work neatly, when required. K‐2 students, and some
older students, may need the teacher to model how to colour appropriately so their work is appealing and easy to
view.
Students will use a ruler to construct/create lines appropriate to different text formats (e.g. columns, tables).
A margin is only to be ruled when one is specifically required to create space on the page.
All titles are to be underlined (from Year 3 onward).
When using the back of a workbook, students should align the book so the pages still turn from right to left.
Writing Utensils (school supplied)
Kindergarten: triangular lead pencils, thick learner coloured pencils
Year 1 ‐ 6: thin lead pencils, thin coloured pencils, ruler
NB: Students provide their own pen/s once they receive their pen licens.
No textas or liquid paper are to be used in any student workbooks. Textas might be required for art activities.
Additional utensils are available upon request for students with special needs, including triangular pencils, thick lead
pencils, foam pencil grips and plastic pencil grips.
Errors
Where a mistake has been made, it can be erased if lead pencil was used. Alternatively, a small cross is to be placed
beside the mistake and that item written again. K‐2 students should use the small cross method to avoid wasting time
erasing.
No erasers are to be used in K‐2.
Brackets are not to be used to highlight errors. The exception to this occurs when an error is of some length. For
example, The student (ride his bick x) rode his bike to school.
Students should be discouraged from writing over the top of an error. Students using this method will need explicit
modeling of how to correct mistakes in the expected manner.
Monitoring:
Bookwork is to be marked neatly. When verbal feedback is given, a teacher will indicate this in the book.
Teachers should provide constructive feedback that the student will understand. This may be done verbally and/or
written in the book.
Assistant Principals will collect samples of student bookwork from each class regularly every term. Any issues will be
discussed with the class teacher.
Exemplary work, or examples of improved student work, will be chosen by class teachers to be presented at stage
assemblies. A maximum of three students per class will be selected each assembly. This work could be bookwork,
technology based publications, artwork or published writing. Selection should consider not only the presentation of
the work but also the learning that has taken place and which is demonstrated in the work sample. The students
whose work was chosen will later receive a “Good Work Award” from the Principal.

MPS Notifications
MPS School Gates
Our school gates will be closed during the day for the safety of our
students.
Back gate: Open at 8.20am. Closed and locked at 9.15am. Opened at
2.40pm.
Front gate: Open at 8.15am. Closed but not locked at 9.20am. Opened
at 2.40pm.
Please note that the car park is only to be used by
staff members. Families dropping their children at
school are not to do so in the staff car park. This is
for Work Health and Safety reasons.
Please do not walk with your child/children through
the staff car park. We have two gates at the front of
the school – one with stair access and one with
ramp access.
Road Safety – Bus Stop and Stopping Zones
Please pay attention to the road rules and signs outside of our school gates.
There is an area at the front of the school for families to drop students off.
Please do not drop students off next to the grey metal fence. This is not safe. Drive further
up the road so that when students open the door they are able to step straight on the
footpath rather than be on the road.
There is a bus stop across the road from the front gate. Please do not park in the bus stop.
