Eva Norton ‐ Archer

Archery State Indoor Champion – 1st

Archery National Indoor Champion – 3rd

I started archery ten months ago because of my dad and older sister. With my own money

I bought my first bow and practised with it for a month, getting ready for my first

competition. The State Target was a really exciting moment for me. I won bronze in my

first competition and made a lot of friends while doing it. Months after that, my dad was

taking me all over the state.

My coach had ordered a new bow just before Christmas and it came after my birthday. I

was trying out for the NSW State Team and at first they didn’t take me, but later on that

day my dad received an email to say I was on the team. I was thrilled to be on the team. I

didn’t know what stillness was for the rest of the day.

A few weeks after that it was time to get ready for Nationals. I got my new bow and

started practising with it the very day I got it. As soon as I had got all right settings on my

sight bar, Nationals were five days away. I didn’t win anything there but I came home with

four personal bests.

Three months after Nationals I had the State Short Course and won bronze. A month after

the short course the State and National Indoor Championships came up. I got the State

title by one point and just scraped in for the bronze medal for Nationals.

Archery is a great sport for anyone to make new friends and friendships. You can learn a

skill that can soon be mastered.

Eva Norton.
