President’s Report
Some of you will already know that sadly Rosie Milton has resigned from the position of President of our Club. Rosie was elected Club President in 2013 and has done an outstanding job. Rosie will still be attending Dog Club and partici-pating in our demonstration team. She is also very happy to continue to share her knowledge and expertise with any members wishing to improve their dog’s skills. As Vice President I have agreed to take the role of Acting President until our next Annual General Meeting, and am very pleased to be supported by Nata-sha Kostic who is Acting Vice President. I have been a Club member since 1999 and own two dogs, Rose and Shelby, who have won obedience and agility Club trophies. I love training my dogs, instructing class and also organising, and tak-ing part in the Club’s Demonstrations at various events.
Thank you to Diane, Belinda and Rosie who conducted the first round of gradu-ation assessments held on 25 March. Congratulations to all members who were promoted to the next class, and I encourage those who were not successful to keep on practicing and to enter the next round of assessments. After reviewing the program, and listening to member feedback, we have decided to conduct graduation assessments on the last Sunday of each month, rather than 8 weekly. This means that assessments were held on 29 April, and will be held again on Sunday 27 May.
Our Club Obedience Championship will be held on Sunday 29 July. Competition is geared to all levels, starting with a section for our Quick Start Class members, through to our most advanced obedience handlers and their dogs. We are cur-rently finalising the program for the competition so that members will know in advance what exercises to practice. We will let you know as soon as the program is finalised.
Wishing all Mothers the love and happiness you so richly deserve... happy Mother’s Day on 13 May!
Best wishes
Liz Karacsonyi Acting President

On Sunday 13 May we share the Showground with Ulladulla Rid-ers and on Sunday 27 May with the Rotary Swap Meet fund rais-ing day.
Did you know that not all areas of Milton Showground are dog off-leash? Although the Dog Off leash sign at the front gate does give that impression, the actual area is shown on this map from Council’s Dog Off Leash booklet.

Just a reminder: at the club we have yellow ribbons available. If you see a dog wearing one of these it means “give me space”. This does not mean the dog is aggressive and they are a danger to you or your dog. It means that they find the club environment overwhelming or exciting and they need to be given their space.
Handlers may elect to put a yellow ribbon on their dogs for a number of reasons, their dog may be overly excited to play with everyone, their dog may be recovering from an injury and needs to remain as calm as possible, or their dog is learning to be more confident around other dogs. We have yellow ribbons available at the clubhouse.

Well done to Karen Gould and her dog Harmon who did so well at the Belconnen Trial.
“Double Obedience Trial held at Belconnen Dog Club on the 7th April, this was Harmon’s first attempt at trialling and a return from over 4 years of absence in trialling for myself. Harmon although very distracted by the new surroundings, dogs and the herd of cows in the paddock next door, managed to exceed my expectations of what we could do and scored a pass of 85/100 and a 2nd place ribbon in the morning trial. Although not a great score, today was more about seeing what we needed to work on as a team. It was near 30 degrees when Harmon went into the ring for the afternoon trial, being a black dog and even with his cool coat, he wasn’t feeling the automatic sits and therefore stood for eve-ryone, giving us a DNQ. The judge said that his heeling on everything else was much better than the morning (apart from the sits). Rather than risk bad habits being formed by both Harmon and I in the other exercises, I withdrew. It is now back to the training paddock for a bit”.

Member Hilary Coulton and her dogs Mia and Monty also went to the Belconnen Trial. Con-gratulations and well done - Mia gained a pass with 96/100 and 2nd Place in CCD, a very spe-cial achievement as Mia is deaf. Monty gained a pass in CD with 184/200 and 3rd place.
Member Sue Swaney tells us about the wonderful time she had with her dogs Bonnie and Lass at the Nationals held earlier this month in Victoria. Plus Bonnie also has a 1st ADX & qualification from Moorabbin trial prior to the Nationals.
“We travelled to the Nationals more for the trip and the fun of entering the trial. You can imag-ine our happy surprise when our Bonnie pro-gressed to the finals. Bonnie gained qualifica-tions in ADX 1st on two days, JDX 1st. Also, JDX 2nd on two days & 3rd on another day.
I was particularly impressed with Bonnie’s result in Novice Snooker achieving a qualifica-tion and 6th place out of 154 dogs of all heights.
Our Lass has shown improvement, especially in ADO, completing the distance challenge, so pleased with her. Very grateful for the contin-ued support from MUDTC”.

Congratulations to Chief Instructor Diane’s dog Rusty
who has now officially obtained his Champion Title
