Across the Pastor’s Desk

There is a Christmas hymn in our hymnal that is simple but exemplifies the meaning of the

incarnation and what our response should be. The words were written by Christina G. Rosetti in

1885.

“Love came down at Christmas, Love all lovely, Love divine; Love was born

at Christmas; star and angels gave the sign.

Worship we the Godhead, Love incarnate, Love divine; worship we our

Jesus, but where-with for sacred sign?

Love shall be our token; love be yours and love be mine;

love to God and neighbor, love for plea and gift and sign.”

Love for all humankind did come down at Christmas. It is a wonderful love story. Mary and

Joseph love God enough to trust Him with the miracle of Jesus' birth. They loved and cared for Jesus

until He grew up and began His ministry. And Jesus loved God and us enough to go to the cross to

finish the story of God’s love for humankind.

The Christmas story is familiar to us. At times we have to work at claiming the reason for

the season among all the activities and commercialism of the season. What cannot be taken for

granted is our response to the gift of love. Will we worship God consistently and as a priority after

the decorations are put away? Will we share the love of Christ with our neighbors after the carols

end?

This Christmas Eve, after the light of Christ is experienced on that holy night, my prayer for

you is that the light of Christ will glow brighter and more consistent in your life and mine. May the

“Love [that] Came Down at Christmas” burn bright, within us and affect the way we live and the

way we care for others throughout the year.

I look forward to celebrating the miracle of Christmas with you in worship this Sunday at

8:45, 9:45, or 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and on Christmas Eve at 6:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m.

I would like to thank everyone that took time out of their Sunday to go

caroling. It is always a joyous event that fills the hearts of so many people

and this year was no exception.

This Sunday (Dec. 22nd) the Youth will not be “officially” meeting, how-

ever, I encourage everyone to come (as a family) to hear the classic Christ-

mas tradition of “Lessons and Carols” lead by our Chancel Choir. The

Cantata starts at 7pm.

The pantry is grateful for our members who have been

generous with their monetary and food contributions.

We especially appreciate our volunteers who have

really been busy with our large number of people com-

ing for food. Our thanks to Vought Aircraft for their

annual donation. What we need this week is flour,

cornmeal, sugar and cooking oil. We will be closed the

week of Christmas. God bless you for your support of

this ministry

The gift of generosity

This holiday season, we thank eve-

ryone who has supported

Milledgeville FUMC this past year

with their time, talent and financial

contributions and look forward to

support from all of our members in

the year ahead. If you need a convenient way to

make regular offerings or if you plan to make an

additional gift before the end of the year, we en-

courage you to look into our electronic giving

options. As the pace of life speeds up, especially

around the holidays, you may find electronic

giving a most welcome way to make contribu-

tions. Visit www.milledgevillefumc.org or con-

tact the church office for more information.

Christmas at the Fire Station

In an effort to honor and support our local firemen, a tree

is going to be decorated and given to the North Baldwin

County district fire station by Beth Joiner, the McAfee

family and others. We would like for anyone living in this

area to donate an ornament, put your family’s name and

year 2013 on it and drop by the church in a container la-

beled in the Mission’s area. Thank you for sharing your

Christmas spirit with our local firemen.
