Across the Pastor’s Desk

This week has the potential to be the busy one for me for the month. The pace is different in Decem-

ber. I enjoy the Christmas activities and the pause in routine, yet the season is full and joyous. The week be-

gan with special music in worship and celebratory worship in all services. We were thrilled with the youth

concert Sunday night. I am proud of the music program that has made great strides for all ages this year. I

wish more of you had been able to be here, but then I wish more of you had been able to be at morning wor-

ship as well.

Every night this week there is something special I want to attend. Milledgeville will be alive with

the sounds of Christmas. I look forward to the opportunities to enjoy this time of year.

There are things that distract us from our Christmas joy. I can get frustrated by what I haven’t gotten

done instead of enjoying what I am able to do. I can let the “why didn’t yous,” or “why did yous” drown out

the sounds of joy.

I also get frustrated by the voices in the church at large that distract from the good news of Christ

coming to the world. Some of you have gotten a mailing from “UM Action.” This is not an official United

Methodist Agency. The church too often mirrors the world with political groups that have agendas. The only

official voice of the United Methodist Church between sessions of the General Conference is the Council of

Bishops. Others opinions or agendas should not be taken as the official position of the denomination.

Parents face the challenge of monitoring what their children have access to; as a pastor I do not have

the right to control the access of information my church members have access to. I do try and control who

has access to our membership through local church communications. But I cannot control the access you

have to information, nor what the access to you may be. I have often mentioned my concerns over the nega-

tive impacts of social media even though I know it sometimes has benefits. Just know that everything that

comes to you in this holiday season may not be as it appears. If you have questions, ask someone for clarity

before responding.

My goal is to focus on the universal joy of Christmas and not the distractions of the world and turf

wars that stand against everything the Prince of Peace came to do. Come let us focus on the joy of the Lord

in worship this Sunday at 8:45, 9:45, or 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

December 15 from 4:00-6:30pm — Christmas Caroling

Join us for our second annual Church Family

Caroling. All ages will meet at the church at 4

p.m. and go as a group to spread Christmas

cheer to our members. We will return to the

church around 6:00 for hot chocolate and

cookies. Pickup at 6:30 in the narthex. We

will need drivers for the children's

group. Please let Allison Griner know if you

can drive.

December 18 from 5:30-7:00pm — Santa Claus is coming to Town and Our Church!

You and your family are invited to come and visit with Santa. Santa will be joining us from 5:30-7:00 to visit with the kids and take pic-tures with families in front of the Chrismon Tree. You will receive your picture in the mail. Dinner will be served at 5:45 and we will NOT have the usual KidsTime and Choir. Instead, we will have a child-friendly Christmas program in the Worship cen-ter. Please call the church by Tuesday, De-cember 17, to make your dinner reserva-tions. If you can’t make it for dinner, make sure to drop-in to see Santa.

M I S C E L L A N E O U S CHARD WRAY FOOD PANTRY

Thank you to all for the continued donations. During the last few

weeks, the National Honor Society came to work at the pan-

try. Youth from our church in this group include Kailey Calhoun and

Kristin Kuehn. They worked very well sorting food and marking

barcodes. We also appreciate Diane Deariso giving up some of her

holiday time to serve at the pantry. So many different groups have

contributed canned goods recently and we are so thankful. The pan-

try continues to need items such as: grits, oatmeal, pasta, pasta sauce,

jelly, peanut butter, rice, beans, instant potatoes, flour, cereal, pan-cake mix and syrup. Our supply of mustard and ketchup runs low as

well. Again, thank you for your continued support. The pantry con-

tinues to be busy during this holiday season. Merry Christmas to all!

Christmas at the Fire Station

In an effort to honor and support our local firemen,

a tree is going to be decorated and given to the

North Baldwin County district fire station by Beth

Joiner, the McAfee family and others. We would

like for anyone living in this area to donate an or-

nament, put your family’s name and year 2013 on

it and drop by the church in a container labeled in

the Mission’s area. Thank you for sharing your

Christmas spirit with our local firemen.

The gift of generosity

This holiday season, we thank everyone

who has supported Milledgeville FUMC

this past year with their time, talent and

financial contributions and look forward to

support from all of our members in the

year ahead. If you need a convenient way

to make regular offerings or if you plan to make an ad-

ditional gift before the end of the year, we encourage

you to look into our electronic giving options. As the

pace of life speeds up, especially around the holidays,

you may find electronic giving a most welcome way to

make contributions. Visit www.milledgevillefumc.org

or contact the church office for more information.
