Far from the Porkopolis roots that gives Cin-cinnati it’s nickname, the flying pig symbolizes

more that just a tribute to the city’s history in our case. It’s been a long time coming for a gay publication of quality to grow from the needs of this Ohio River City and our neighbors, so long in fact that one may have given

up hope; just as that of a day when pigs fly. It’s now a new day... here piggy, piggy.

MidwestQ could be a lot of things and can go many dif-ferent directions. What we are however is a single, tangible destination to unite and inform our community on events & venues that are still truely our own. Even as our lifestyle is accepted by mainstream society more and more everyday - this publication is dedicated to those who still yearn for places truely our own; those of us who close our laptops, throw on our comfortable but trendy jeans to tackle the nightlife as some sort of nocturnal nature is programmed into us. This very urge embedded in our culture is no different than that of ancient Greek philoso-pher Democritus (c.460 BC), who stated: “Creatures flock together with their kind, doves with doves, cranes with cranes and so on”. MidwestQ reminds us that we need to flock together to celebrate where we have been, where we are going, and in a sense paying homage to establishments - both old and new - that have helped establish our queer community before the age of internet chat, mobile connections, and the ability to safely embrace in many public places.

Finally we have a gay publication that unites the capital cities of three neigh-boring states; Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. We are now giving credit and cov-erge where it is due to cities such as Cin-cinnati, Lexington, Dayton and Lousiville while providing new options to Indianap-olis and Columbus.

Over the next few months as you & your favorite venues help our publication grow we in turn will continue to augment nightlife that is truly our own. As a Mid-westQmunity, we can do anything. JAS
