Here we are one year closer to the Future. How much time do we all spend thinking of our future? Enough? Too much? We can not change the past, But we might be able to affect the future. The future of Horology in some way needs ALL of us. Have you ever had some one exclaim that “GEE you guys are a dying profession” “We had a hard time finding someone to fix our Clock/watch”? Have you thought of how you individually can affect the future of Horology? The future is a bit like the “Reality” tv program Survivor. We are all playing a game that our life’s and future income earnings rely on how well WE play the game. Professional organizations like AWCI, MWCA, Mn Clockmakers Guild, NAWCC, OTL. can and do help us all in some way. Even if we are not active members in any or all of the groups: They do affect our life’s and income earning potential. Attending these local conventions help each of us. Individually we get to rub shoulders with our Friendly competitors. As a group we get stronger and grow. Can you think of another person that is not a member and might welcome an invitation to join? I can think of a lot of our competitors and comrades that are not here. I would like all of us to per-sonally invite someone to become a member ,that might be helped or can help the profession . We have lost a few members of our small troupe this year. Some due to mother nature and some thru moving on to another location. When we take in less work than we get out we run out of work. When we take in less members than move on WE loose ............. We ALL need to think of how WE can instill the Past sense of craftsmanship and combine the future technologies. Think of your clock and watches as Patients. It is up to ALL of us to recruit and train the future Doctors who will care for our present day patients. Please spend a few mo-ments reflecting on what you can do for future clock and watch owners. We are all thankful for your attendance for another Annual convention and hope to see you and a friend in the future.

Have you seen the movie Hugo? The Automaton seen in the movie was inspired by a real Automaton produced in the 1790’s. Andy Baron who restored that 1790’s Automa-ton is going to come and talk on Friday night. His presentation will cover the general issues about restoration, and on Saturdays convention talk he will get into more of the specifics (can you imagine 74 cams (72 for the hand’s movements, plus 2 for the head and eyes, rotating with three sets of followers (for x, y, and z output) to control the hand and have him write?
