‘There is nothing quite like the midnight sun in Iceland.’

For a few days, we have 24 hours of daylight and, if you're lucky, you can watch as the sun lowers itself -- painting the sky with vivid colours of orange and pink -- and then rises again without ever setting.

This is a great time of year for staying outdoors, diving, and taking underwater photographs. That is exactly what Midnight Sun 2015 is all about.

AboutThe Midnight Sun shootout takes place on June 21st in the Thingvellir National Park of Iceland, 45 mins drive from Reykjavik city centre. Participants will visit the Great Lake Thingvallavatn and world famous Silfra Tectonic Ravine, where they will shoot from midnight until 6am in the morning.

After diving, the judging phase will be live during the winning ceremony at the Hilton Reykjavik Nordica, commencing on the evening of 22nd June. Joining us for this special event from the UK will be Simon Rogerson, editor of SCUBA magazine, and Adam Green from Cameras Underwater.

A small film crew will be present to document the event from start to finish in HD 1080p quality.

Guidelines for photographers

● The competition is open to all level of UW photographer from novice through to professional.

● It is highly recommended that UW photographers entering the competition gain cold water drysuit experience before coming to Iceland.

● Photographers are welcome to bring a buddy for camera assistance and UW modelling.

Shooting

● Each photographer participating in the competition should submit a portfolio of 3 best images.

● The portfolio submitted should introduce a story or visual composition. The theme of the portfolio is open.

● All images should be submitted to Magmadive by 3pm on the 22nd June 2015.

Live Judging EventWinning Ceremony

The winning ceremony will be held at the Hilton Reykjavik Nordica Vox lounge between 6pm-9pm. A selection of delicious canapes will be served before the ceremony followed by champagne at the bar.

From the UK, SCUBA Magazine Editor Simon Rogerson & Adam Green of Cameras Underwater.

Score

Each participant will be ranked by the judges. The participant that receives the highest cumulative score will be announced as the winner.

FAQWhat is Midnight Sun?

Midnight Sun is an UW photo competition that celebrates the nordic light of Iceland. It invites participants to dive and take pictures for 2 days under the Iceland’s astronomical phenomenon: the midnight sun.

When does the competition take place?

The competition takes place from the 21st-22nd of June 2015 over summer solstice. During that period, Iceland has 24hr sunlight, allowing great opportunities for underwater photography and above water atmosphere.

How much does it cost?

300GBP

What’s Included in the price?

A full 3 dive package with entrance into the competition.

What can one expect from the diving?

Very cold and extremely clear conditions, ideal for drysuit divers of all levels. Both dive sites offer spectacular lava rock scenery with underwater visibility of over 100m.

How can I enter the event?

To enter Midnight sun you need to be an experienced diver with a camera. Booking is available online. Simply go to www.magmadive.is/divetrips/midnightsun

How will I get to the dive site?

Magmadive will pick you up and drop you off from your hotel.

Will I need to bring my own dive gear?

All scuba diving equipment is provided, although you are welcome to bring your own, especially your drysuit.

What about food & drink for the event?

Hot soup and beverages are included at Midnight Sun. These will be freshly prepared and served at the dive site.
