Building for Success: Bath Redevelopment and Freeport Expansion to Highlight 2016 In response to the Credit Union’s current and future growth needs, we are pleased to announce not one, but two major expansion projects set to break ground in 2016. “We have effectively run out of space in Bath.” states Joe Gervais, President/CEO. “We considered multiple options to redevelop our Bath site including acquiring additional land, but ultimately it was determined that the site was too small to support our future growth. We currently have 28 employees in Bath and it is also our busiest location for member activity. When weighing the needs of our Bath members and our operational facility needs, our members come first.” In response to this analysis, the Credit Union will be building a new 2,800 square foot branch facility that will be connected to the current administrative office building. Approximately half of the Bath employees will be relocated to another location (more on that later) and ultimately the original main office building will make way for an expanded member parking area to serve the new branch. The new branch design will address many of the challenges of the current site to include a more easily accessible drive through facility complete with ATM, expanded safety deposit box capacity, and improved site circulation, not to mention a fresh, modern design. Building for Success expansion. “It is a beautiful building that will represent and serve the Credit Union well into the future.” remarks Bernie Wyman, Board Chairman.

The two projects are highly interdependent on the other and their construction timelines will closely overlap. “Our primary goal is minimize the impact on member service as we bring these projects to completion.” adds Gervais. “We will seek to relocate employees off the Bath site first and plan for the shortest construction window for Bath as possible, to minimize the strain on parking.” Current estimates are for both projects to be completed by late summer 2016. With the course set on the future of the Bath facility, management and your Board of Directors sought out alternative locations in the southern mid-coast region to address our operational space needs. As the search area expanded to Freeport, it was quickly determined that the building located at 186 Lower Main Street would fit our needs well and provide an opportunity to serve a new community. The 8,400 square foot building will house the relocated operational staff from Bath, afford much needed training and meeting space, and create an opportunity for a new retail branch to serve new and current members, as well as provide space for future

We are proud to announce that Midcoast FCU was recently named as one of the 2015 Best Places to Work in Maine! This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Maine, benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce and businesses. The 2015 Best Places to Work in Maine list is made up of 75 companies in three size categories. Midcoast FCU was nominated in the medium company size category with its current 55 employee count.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the Best Places to Work in Maine. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, and demographics, which was worth approxi-mately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final rankings.

“What truly drives the employees here is the positive impact they have on the finan-cial success of our members.” shares Neeley Stanton, AVP Human Resources and Training. “We advocate for employees to be engaged consumers of financial products, and to know and monitor their personal credit score. Employees are educated in fraud protec-tion and identity theft. They are taught the benefits of preparing for financial hardships through savings plans and insurance protec-tion and are encouraged to use the CU’s technology solutions. This prepares them to better educate our members.”

Concern for Community Midcoast FCU named to 2015 Best Places to Work in Maine list!

Communication and training is key to employee development and satisfaction. This includes a company-wide meeting each Wednesday, and semi-annual ‘state of the

credit union’ in-person meetings. Position-specific training is ongoing; and employees are also provided with up to $2,500 per year in educational expense reimbursement. Communication is a two-way street, so employees provide regular feedback, which in turn aids morale and employee engagement.

Lifestyle and celebration programs are also a big deal here. Just a few include spirit wear work days, employee appreciation events, incentives, bonuses, lunches on high-volume days, reimbursements for fitness or wellness programs, and opportunities to give back to the community. But most important is a sense of employee empowerment.

“Our employees appreciate their ability to make decisions, to develop relationships with our members and to truly make a difference in our members’ lives,” adds Joe Gervais, President/CEO.

The awards program was created in 2006 and is a project of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) – Maine State Council and Best Companies Group. If you are inter-ested in a career with Midcoast FCU, please visit our Careers Page on our website for a list of current openings or to submit your resume for future consideration.
