ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) and IMSI (Intracytoplasmic morphologicallyselected sperm injection), IVF (In vitro fertilization) technologies that have receiveda lot of attention in recent years as a remedy for male infertility, require a highlyprecise manipulator to respond to delicate movement of the operator's hands.

Stable, smooth manipulation is also required for injection to the stem cell,transgenics and electrophysiology.

The NT-88-V3 series, jointly developed by Nikon and Narishige, ensures easyoperation and an unsurpassed level of precision. When used in combination withNikon's high-performance microscopes, it provides strong support for cutting-edgebiomedical research.

•Size is greatly reduced as the 3D motor-driven coarse control manipulator and 3D hydraulic fine micromanipulator are combined in a single unit.

Oil-hydraulic Micromanipulators

3D Hydraulic Micromanipulator

NT-88-V3Combined 3D motor-driven coarse control manipulator andthe 3D hydraulic fine micromanipulator realize remarkablycompact and stable design.

• Less than half the size of a conventional model—minimal lengthtubes and cords—the manipulator fits easily into the incubator.

• Closer-to-the-center settings are possible, while reduceddistance from manipulator mount to microelectrode tipincreases stability.

• X-axis control knobs are located symmetrically on opposite sidesof the joystick to eliminate left side/right side positioningproblems.

• 10mm X-Y operating range provides versatility in manipulationat lower magnifications.

• A “resume” feature returns the pipette to the original positionafter the pipette has been raised for quicker, easier Petri dishchanges.

• The universal joint is outfitted with an angle gauge, whichensures accurate-angle operation. The forward-mounted returnmechanism facilitates Petri dish changing.

Universal Joint

UJ-V3Universal Joint UJ-V3 allows the pipette holder to be moved in asingle direction. The angle can be adjusted for both vertical andhorizontal directions via two separate control knobs. The forward-mounted return mechanism facilitates changing the petri dishwhile the built-in angle gauge ensures accurate-angle operation.Moreover, because the UJ-V3 is mountable from above, unlike theconventional type, attachment and removal is much easier.

Microscope Adapters for NT-88-V3Various adapters are available for use with Nikon microscopes.As both adapters and manipulators are compact, attachingthem is very easy.

Pneumatic Microinjector IM-11-2* The IM-11-2 allows suction and injection of a microsample withprecision and operability comparable to oil hydraulic injectors. It issuitable for both injecting and holding during ICSI. Air bubbles donot enter the micropipette when the pneumatic microinjector isfitted.Movement range: 40mm* In the U.S.A., use IM-11-2A for clinical use.

Oil-type Microinjector IM-9B Pneumatic Injector IM-9CThe IM-9B, which is suitable for injection, and the IM-9C, which issuitable for holding, provide smoother and more stablemaneuverability by applying a new mechanism to minimizebacklashes. Also, their 53mm working distance, large-volumesyringe and just-the-right-size control knob with graduated scalesall contribute to easy control of the injection. The IM-9B has aglass syringe for easy confirmation of internal air bubbles while itsnew tube connector with a three-way stopcock makes for easierfilling of oil without generating air bubbles..

Pipette Holder Clamper HIK-5

The HIK-5 is used to keep the pipette holder at the desiredposition, thereby simplifying pipette exchange. The magneticclamper is attached to a bench or iron plate. Alternatively, itcan be attached to the included round metal plate, whichcan be affixed at the desired location to a microscope stageusing double-sided adhesive tape.

Manual 3D Micromanipulators

NMN-21/25The NMN-21 and -25 are designed for drift-free operation,making them ideal for delicate, patch-clamp research. The unithas no hydraulic system nor spring mechanism and its uniquedouble-slider structure minimizes vibrations transmitted from theoperator’s hand to the tip of the pipette via the control knob. Theunit’s motor-less and actuator-less design also eliminateselectromagnetic disturbances. The NMN-25 features a compact,space-saving design without a scale.

3D Water-Hydraulic Micromanipulator

MHW-3The MHW-3 is a hydraulic micromanipulator for patch clampingthat reduces unwanted drift due to temperature change. A cartridge with a one-to-five moving ratio enables fine controlmanipulation equivalent to an oil hydraulic manipulator. The drumtype control unit enables high linear repeatability.

Manual patch clamping This system is suitable for patch clamp experiments on slice cellsusing an upright microscope. The two stages that incorporate newfunctions were developed especially for the FN1. One is independentfrom the microscope and the other, a manual XY stage, enables themicroscope’s observation field to be changed. Though three water-hydraulic micromanipulators are used in the picture, any number canbe selected.

Accessories

Micropipette Puller PC-10The PC-10 is used to pull the glass capillary vertically, utilizing thegravitational force of its own weight. It has two modes: a singlepull, pulling capillary at one stretch, and a double pull in whichthe setting is changed in mid-process. The versatile vertical pulltype is suitable for both injection purposes and patch clamping.

Glass Capillaries G-100, G-1, GD-1/1.2/1.5G-100 is a thin-walled glass capillary ideal for ICSI, while G-1 is forgeneral purpose.The GD series is commonly known as double tubing. These glasscapillaries contain an internal glass fiber (approx. 100 µm).The glass capillaries have been prewashed in an ultrasonic washingmachine.

Pipette Grinder EG-400The grinder with minimized irregular movements of the grindingplane and the microscope are combined. Precise grinding whileconfirming needle contact with grinding plane is facilitated.

Micropipette Puller PN-31The PN-31 uses a pulling method by which a glass capillary is fine-drawn using electromagnetic force, enabling the production oflong, sharp microneedles. The pulling tension can be adjustedover a wide range, from weak tension that is required at thebeginning of pulling to strong tension that is required to make along, thin microneedle.

Microforge MF-830A powerful microscope with 525x total magnification isincorporated to make electrodes with tips less than 2µm for patchclamping.

Microforge MF-900The MF-900 is designed to produce injection and holdingpipettes. In addition to the temperature and illumination, theposition of the heating element can be adjusted.
