the wall of Cooke Dam; ca-

noers paddle upstream to

back to portage over the

dam and continue down-

stream; canoers portage a

second time at Foote Dam

and then proceed to the Finish Line at the AuSable Inn. Expert

--Race starts at 10:00am at Childrens Park. Race Course: Pad-

dlers will race 2 laps from Childrens Park to round a buoy just

downstream of the railroad trestle bridge and back. This allows

for better spectating of the paddlers in town.

--Winning time is about 1 hr.

--Awards following the race at Childrens Park.

--Minimum prize pool of $1,000.

***NOTICE***: Be advised, the portage at Foote Dam has

been narrowed due to recent erosion-prevention and rein-

forcement construction to the seawall. The seawall has been

raised about 2 feet, but has an opening about 24' wide with a

concrete staircase, similar to Mio Dam. Portaging over the

seawall, which has been the common method for many years,

is extremely difficult. Please use care and sportsmanlike con-

duct when/if portaging with other teams.

The dam and portage are closed off to all spectators. Specta-

tors are encouraged to view the race at new viewing platform

next to the dam, at Rea Road Bridge, the River Road Scenic

Overlook near Footesite, and at the U.S. Forest Service Whirl-

pool Boat Launch (a fee is required to park there). More infor-

mation will be provided at the pre-race briefing.
