Public schools often lack information on child's status, history, and needs. Missing information may include:Who holds the child’s educational rights,Where the child last attended school,Who the social worker/attorney is,Special Education needs (suspected or documented disabilities), and/orRestrictions reagrding no contact orders etc.
Schools serve “in loco de parentis”. They are: Required to provide a free and appropriate
education in the least restrictive setting (CA Ed Code and Federal Code),
Must communicate with the Educational Rights holder,
Be aware the unique needs of students in foster care,
Are focused on achievement.
