Michael Scofield’s Hero Journey

Michael’s JourneyMichael Scofield is the little brother of

Lincoln Burrows, an inmate who has been sentenced to death at Fox River Penitentiary. Michael, realizing that Lincoln is innocent and was set up, is taking the initiative to break Lincoln out of prison before his end date. Michael studies the blue prints of the prison and studies articles about most of the people in the prison. He knows who can help him and how they can help him. Michael’s next step, getting into prison and getting Lincoln out before he dies.

The Ordinary WorldMichael was a structural engineer at the

architectural firm of Middleton, Maxwell & Schaum before he began his journey at Fox River.

The Call to AdventureThe Call to adventure for Michael was

Lincoln getting sentenced to death for a murder that he didn’t commit. Michael was determined, when he discovered that Linc was innocent, to break him out of prison because an innocent man didn’t need to die.

Meeting the MentorSarah Tancredi was Michael’s mentor. They

talked about a lot on his daily visits to the infirmary for his insulin shots, they gave each other a lot of advice.

Crossing the ThresholdMichael crossed the threshold when he

entered Fox River and became an inmate. This was his new life until he could break out with Linc.

Test, Allies, and EnemiesThe inmates at Fox River tested Michael to

see how far it took to break him. Sometimes they became enemies and sometimes they just called it truce and got along because Michael needed certain people for certain tasks to be accomplished. He got along with some people simply because he had to.

Approach the Innermost CaveMichael approached the innermost cave

when he was beginning his escape. Right when he busted through the wall in his cell, behind the toilet, he approached the innermost cave.

OrdealMichael escapes with eight other inmates.

RewardMichael, Linc, and six other inmates escaped

from Fox River Penitentiary. This was rewarding to Michael because he successfully broke his innocent brother out of prison.
