CommunityMerlin Spillers recently attended a Men's Gathering inCalifornia and brought back with him a poem that hefound posted in several places at that event. He shares ithere with the Senior Pride community:

We can keep complainingOr we can create community.

When resources are scarce we can fight over themCling to and live in fearFor what you barely have,Or create community.

You can find differences, ever more differencesAnd justify them with excuses cunning and seductive,That lull you into cutting yourself off from others,Heading toward isolation,Racing away from Spirit,Or you can create community.

You cannot force other people to create community,You can model itAnd make it as attractive as your flowering, effulgent heart,As compelling as nectar in the desert,And as unremarkable and natural as touch.

If you believe community is impossibleYou are right. If you believe community is vital, viable, and your only hope,You are also right.

Let us choose wisely.

Humor CornerThe Importance of

Walking!!

Walking can add minutes to your life. Thisenables you at 85 years old to spend anadditional 5 months in a nursing home at$7000 per month.

I like long walks, especially when they aretaken by people who annoy me.The only reason I would take up walking is sothat I could hear heavy breathing again.

I have to walk early in the morning, before mybrain figures out what I'm doing.

Every time I accidentally say the dirty word'exercise', I wash my mouth out withchocolate, or rum.

The advantage of exercising every day is sowhen you die, they'll say, 'Well, she looksgood doesn't she.'

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a very small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise the last fewyears,......just getting over the hill.

We all get heavier as we get older, becausethere's a lot more information in our heads. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Every time I start thinking too much abouthow I look, I just find a Happy Hour and bythe time I leave, I look just fine.
