WHY ARE POSSUMS PESTS?Possums are pests to our vegetation and some of that vegetation that they destroy has an impact on feeding our native animals. They are also pests because they kill our native, defenceless animals, for example:• Kiwis • Baby birdsEtc.

What methods can be used to eradicate Possums?

Possums can be eradicated by…• Hunters • Traps• Poison• 1080• Mia’s dad

These are the main methods for eradicating possums.

What is 1080?Why is it used?

1080 is a pest control poison. 1080 is used to eradicate Possums, Stoats and Ship Rats. The victims that are NOT supposed to consume it are…• Kiwis• Kokako• Mohua

• It can demolish pests.

• When the pests are demolished the forests will keep growing.

• It can also kill our native animals even if we don’t mean to.

• It can destroy habitats of native animals.

• The pests will stop effecting the eco-system. • If endangered animals consume it, it could be fatal.I don’t want to die my cousins already suffered

The big question is…

Should we use 1080 in NZ?

We don’t think so!

We say NO to 1080!

In our opinion we as, New Zealanders agree that 1080 should NOT be used because it can effect native animals that are wanted here. So that means we should see no helicopters flying around spraying 1080 in forests.

Bob is one of the very few possums still alive due to 1080. How do we know that 1080 has dealt with all the possums? Well we have a simple solution!

Our solution is…

A possum enclosure!!!!

The possum enclosure will go like this…We believe possums should not be killed but should be kept in an enclosure. Because its not fair to kill them, sure, they have killed some of our native animals that areclose to being extinct. But if you look at it like this possums could become extinct too. So we think there should be a enclosure just for possums like these enclosures, where possums are allowed to do what they like. Its also where we can be educated to learn moreabout them.

We hope you agree that we shouldn’t use 1080 in NZ.
