Castro’s! social! and! poli2cal!work! is! the! inspira2on!behind! her! feminist! artwork.!!Her! work! focuses! on! the! themes! of! gender! stereotypes! and! the! construc2on! of! female!mythology.! !Autobiographical! in!nature,!Panmela!uses!her!ar2s2c!process!to!provoke!and!polemicize!women!and!men’s!coexistence!with!the!city,!the!truths!imposed!by!our!society,!par2cularly! in! rela2on! to! the! female! body,! sexuality,! subjec2vity,! and! power! rela2ons,!puCng!art!as!its!lifestyle.!!!As!part!of!this!ar2s2c!process,!through!the!performance!strives,!“My!Dear!DVF,”!presen2ng!the!dress!given!to!Panmela!by!Diane!von!Furstenberg!aJer!the!auc2on!of!one!of!her!works!at!the!DVF!studio!in!New!York.! !Once!an!object!of!desire,!Panmela!adds!new!symbolism!to!the!dress!by!reinser2ng!it! into!the!spaces!of!daily!lives,!such!as!graffi2,!soccer!games,!and!playing!with!children!in!Rio!de!Janeiro.!!!Previously!an! inanimate!object,! the!green!wrap!dress,!builds!up!smells,!marks,!and!colors!while!traversing!the!ar2st’s!spaces!in!situa2ons!that!expose!the!female!body!in!the!city.!!
