TVAF - Metadata
“Data about data”
• A common framework
• Limited bandwidth
• Exchangeable and interoperable
• Co-operation with SMPTE, EBU, MPEG-7
• Preliminary specification completed at September meeting
TVAF - Rights management
• To rightfully utilize material on a local storage device from both broadcast and on-line sources
• At least 2 months delay
• Preliminary requirements document completed at September meeting
What is myTV?
• 2-years project funded by the European Commission under the IST programme
• Started 1 January 2000
• Aims to provide an interoperable TV-Anytime solution for DVB
• Partners– CE equipment manufacturers: Philips, Nokia
– broadcasters: BBC, RAI, NOB– service providers: UoL, NDS
Objectives
• Implement a consumer platform with built-in local storage
• Develop TV-Anytime services exploiting this platform
• Provide true interoperability, both across different service providers and across different box manufacturers
Some assumptions
Co-operation with service providers / broadcasters
enables a low-cost implementation of TV-Anytime.
Experimenting with applications utilizing local
storage helps in defining local storage extensions
to MHP.

Future plans
TVA phase 1– To search, select, acquire and rightfully utilize
material on a local storage device from both broadcast and on-line sources
TVA phase 2– To transfer material between local storage devices
using home networks and exchangeable media and to micro-navigate around the rich content.
