1 2013-2014 Annual History Report It is with great pride that the Montgomery Chapter presents our 2013-2014 An- nual History Report. As you know, my term as President has ended. Accepting the challenge to lead the Chapter helped me to more fully accept Immediate Past National President Mary Peterman’s challenge to get “CONNECTED” to AGA. My journey in leading the Chapter was not accomplished alone. I was ac- companied by a team of dynamic individuals, both elected and appointed, who shared in our successes and failures. Each of these individuals brought their in- dividual talent, personality and discipline to the table enabling me to complete a successful year of personal and professional growth and leadership. I look back on my term with appreciation and satisfaction, knowing that we kept our focus on AGA’s core values: Ser- vice, Accountability, Integrity, and Leadership. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chapter Executive Committee (CEC) for their hard work and dedication in serving with me. In particular, I would like to thank 2013-2014 President-Elect LaTaya Lucas, AGA Regional Vice President, Pamela Lincoln, Treasurer Kay Wilson and Secretaries Sheila Hatcher and Sandra Steele for their support and encouragement during my term. I would be remiss if I did not recognize the 2013-2014 committee directors and members. This year, the spirit of teamwork was evident in several of our projects and events. And we laughed quite a bit! The two words “Thank You” are not enough to express my gratitude and appreciation for the privilege of working with dedicated and highly skilled professionals. With every meeting and event, this CEC inspired me to be a better, more productive, more valu- able member of AGA. Most importantly, my thanks go out to you, the members, for all your support during my term as your Chapter President. Without you, the Chapter would not exist. It was my pleasure to have served you. This report will provide a summary of Chapter activities for program year 2013-14. Please take the time to review what you helped the Chapter to accomplish this year. In closing, I encourage you to find your fityour nichein AGA. President LaTaya Lucas cre- ated some new committees for 2014-2015, so there is a place somewhere for you. Don’t stay on the outer fringes of the Chapter. Get involved. Everyone has something to offer. As mem- bers, we need each other, and the Chapter benefits when we roll up our sleeves and get busy. If you believe in the vision, mission, and goals of AGA, show it. Support President Lucas and the CEC this year. Againmany thanks for a wonderful year. Mayor Todd Strange, City of Montgomery, proclaims March

as CGFM Month

The CGFM Program is distin-

guished by academic achieve-

ment, rigorous examinations

and experience in government

financial management.” The

CGFM is the first designation

that is broad enough to encom-

pass the federal, state and local

government financial manage-

ment field. It measures a wide

range of skills and knowledge

that professionals need to be

successful in the federal govern-

ment financial environment, or

to meet the challenges faced by

state and local government fi-

nancial managers.

Our Chapter supported the CGFM program by sponsoring up to twelve CGFM scholarships for members of the Chapter who passed any parts of the exam. Tashundrea Patterson of the Department of Revenue passed all three parts of the exam and received three scholarships. Ms. Patterson is employed as a Senior Accountant with the Department of Revenue. The Chapter’s March 2014 newsletter featured James D. Howell, CGFM, for the CGFM Spotlight article. Mr. Howell is employed as Assistant Director of the Examiners of Public Accounts County Audit Division

The following State, County, and City government leaders proclaimed March 2014 as CGFM Month:

Governor Robert Bentley, State of Alabama Mayor Mike Schmitz, City of Dothan Mayor Todd Strange, City of Montgomery Mayor Dexter McClendon, City of Greenville Mayor William A. Bell, City of Birmingham Mayor Robert Craft, City of Gulf Shores Mayor Jerry Willis, City of Wetumpka Mary Gary Fuller, City of Opelika Mayor Walter Maddox, City of Tuscaloosa Montgomery County Commission Mayor Tommy Battle, City of Huntsville Mayor Tony Kennon, City of Orange Beach Mayor Bill Gillespie, Jr., City of Prattville Mayor George Patrick Evans, City of Selma Mayor Jason Reeves, City of Troy

Accountability Report

AGA's Citizen-Centric Government Reporting Initiative is intended to foster

innovative means of communication between governments and their citizenry.

AGA believes that government financial information should be provided to citi-

zens in forms that are clear and understandable, updated regularly and often,

delivered to all, easy to locate, honest in breadth and technically accurate in

detail. In fact, as the owners of government, citizens have a right to this infor-

mation. AGA's Citizen-Centric Reports detail government finances in a visually

appealing, clear and understandable four-page document. AGA believes that

these reports will make governments more accountable to their citizens, and

will help Americans become better educated and better able to participate in

government activities.
