We are now embarking on the final few months of the 2015-2016 school year – time has moved very quickly. As always, our students have been active-ly engaged in rich classroom learning, as well as activities that take place outside of the classroom. They have taken advantage of spirit based oppor-tunities within the school, and continue to display citizenship by contributing to our community. We are so very proud of our Chargers and all they do in the school.

Of course, at this time of the year, we participate in numerous activities that have us looking ahead. All of your students will have selected their course choices for the 2016-2017 school year and our team will soon begin planning to support their programming. Our graduating students are starting to solidify their plans for the fall and we are excited by the many opportunities they have been afforded. Finally, we are deeply immersed in making plans to support our incoming grade nine Chargers!

Our students made us so proud during Random Acts of Kindness Week. They delivered pizza to the Belleville General Hospital Emergency Room Staff, coffee and treats to Belleville Police Services, and a visit to Belmont Retirement Home. Another community outreach initiative was our first Movie Night where we welcomed students, staff and their families, and our neighbours to join us.

COOPERATIVE EDUCATION Cooperative Education continues to be a popular choice for students of all pathways. Whether students are university/college bound, pursuing apprenticeship training or entering the workforce after high school, coop-erative education at Centennial is offering valuable experiential learning and course credits. Currently stu-dents are exploring careers in law and security, social services, plumbing, education, and electrical trades to name a few.

Experiential learning…...building confidence while promoting strong work eth-

ics and positive working relationships.

Exploring Skilled Trades Through OYAP

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program allows students

to get an early start on an apprenticeship in a skilled trade. It

is an excellent opportunity to “test” out a trade and gain

hours towards an apprenticeship while still earning an OSSD.

Currently students are working in the Automotive Service

Technician, Electrical, Agricultural Equipment Technician,

Chef and Hairstylist trades.

Spencer Ferguson-Wolfe is pictured above

Curtis Courneya is completing a placement at the

Norampac in Trenton as an electrician’s assistant.
