• Maya civilization is composed of several different city-states.

Mayan Contributions

• Maya writing: hieroglyphic writing system, which they used in books and inscriptions, many of which record important events in Maya history.

• Maya calendar: The calendar, or Long Count, of the Maya was based on cycles of creation and destruction.
