Fewer inspections offorest, range practices
A Forest Practices Board investigationinto govt inspections of compliance withforest and range practice legislationfound that the number of inspections is1/3 of what it was a few years ago.
Inspections decreased for a variety of reasons, one of which was the 2010 con-solidation of natural resource ministriesthat now sees fewer natural resource of-ficers inspecting a much greater numberand type of activities on Crown land, ieinspecting dams, recreation activities, il-legal structures like cabins and docks, lit-ter, open burning, etc.
As a result of this investigation, the board recommends improvements tohow the government records and reportsindustry compliance.
The Forest Practices Board is BC's in-dependent watchdog for sound forestand range practices, reporting findings &recommendations directly to the public& gov’t. The board can investigate andreport on current forestry and range is-sues and make recommendations for im-provement to practices and legislation.
